at&t defeats Verizon Wireless 4Q2006

Cingular Hitman

Jan 29, 2007, 9:18 AM
The trolls will have many points (some of which valid) to argue. But the numbers are in, and they don't lie.

2.4 million to 2.3 million.

Including all elements, be it pre-paid for Cingular as a strength and Verizon's historic churn rates, the final number says Cingular ADDED MORE CUSTOMERS THEN VERIZON OVER A 3 MONTH PERIOD

....raising it higher.

Should be changed from raising it higher to relying on more outside sources.
For the year Cingular added 6.8 million while VZW added 7.8 million. 😳
The fouth quarter numbers were fueled by resellers, they acconted for 1/3 of the total for the quarter. Cingy added a pale 850k postpaid retail while VZW added 2.1 million.
Would you want your company relying on other companies to make your numbers or a company that is posting the results almost soley on it's own? Would you rather have 2.1 million postpaid that signed a contract to stay with you for at least 12-24 months or only 850k, can you say Churn??? Would you rather have 750k prepaid that could decide to leave at anytime or would Cingy have been better off with focusing on postpaid ...

Cingular Hitman

Hi BigDaddyTROLL.

your numbers are cute and your dedication to your carrier is admirable. but let me ask you as simply as i can since you are a long winded type of guy.

if a football team controlls the entire game. satistically, emotionally, momentum and all, but the final score isn't in their favor is that a win?

no one cares about re-sellers or postpaid v. pre. those are excuses. if i wanted to make excuses, i'd point out how cingular pulverizes verizon in net adds almost every single quarter for over a year before churn.

2.4 > 2.3
61 mil > 59 mil
iphone > anything you got or have coming

raising it higher

hitman???? do you have a clue? net adds are after churn and where is the profit in loosing postpaid customers only to spend a fortune replacing them? You have no business sense whatsoever, it costs more to add new customers and less to keep what you got. does that make sense or too much info for you to process? As far as the football analogy you won the game but the season goes to VZW, it takes more than a quarter to win the year. go play with your red rider bb gun and take some marks.

Correct, by 2010 Saybian will play second fiddle to Linux as will the new at&t. VZW has none I think but I'm not sure and my mom is not here to answer for me. Nokia and FOMA are major users of Symbian OS and neither can make a CDMA phone to save their lives. I heard NOKIA is Swedish for crap, is that true?????

FOMA is WCDMA correct? Why would they make a CMDA handset? Samsung is starting to put out Symbian phones.. and LG.. And why would VZW release a symbian phone if they are just going to lock down the UI/apps anyways? Seems pointless.. Furthermore why would Nokia invest so much into CDMA when it's 10% of the global market? Oh.. because they are altruistic? Doubtful.. Nokia is li...

Wow, Bigdaddy is right your business acumen is leveled somewhere around the 7-11 clerks. Cingular lost to Verizon as usual, nobody takes into consideration tracfone adds. Look at rcrnews today, Cingular was PUMMELED by Verizon, less than a million of those adds were high value post paid customers whereas 2.1 million of Verizon customers were postpaid high value customers.

Cingular customers as always drink orange kool-aid like its free beer. You guys are absolutely oblivious to the notion that Cingular is going to get passed by Verizon sometime this year and I am going to laugh at every Cingular fanboy I meet who pledged that Verizon would never overtake Cingular and I'll watch as the ultimate fanboy himself Stan resigns in embarassment ...

please tell me you are not as dumb as your post shows! Cingular lost more customers, this can be seen when you account for Cingular having a higher churn rate. Cingular had more gross adds but 1 million less net additions for the year.

Verizon Wireless pummels Cingular with 2.1M postpaid adds in Q4

Verizon Wireless announced it captured 2.3 million net new customers in the fourth quarter, numbers that show it continues to dominate other national carriers with its retail performance.

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. brought in more net customers, with 2.4 million customer additions during the fourth quarter, however, fewer than 1 million of Cingular’s customers were high-value postpaid retail customers. Meanwhile, Verizon Wireless said it gained 2.1 million postpaid customers through its own channels in the fourth quarter. The carrier increased its customer base by 15 percent year-over-year to 59.1 million.

Although Cingular is still the largest U.S. carrier by customer ba...

CINGULAR HAD A GREAT QUARTER.

but if you take any smart businessman/woman/exec and put two unmarked reports in front of them. VZW and Cingulars quarter reports. and ask the exec which would you want for your companys results. 100% of them would pick VZW's results.

Cingular did good, Verizon Wireless did better

Finally someone of common sense on the Cinglar board. It pains me to see that some people will deface every carrier no matter what the "facts" say. Yet the facts speak for themselves, on paper Verizon does better and will eventually overtake Cingular and then I will watch as Stan resigns in shame.

All of the hysterical chatter over prepaid customers being death to profitibility and churn inspite of all the evidence to the contrary, about the iphone lacking broadband (I guess Wimax doesn't count), comparing Cingular to Sprint and bending over so far backwards to dismiss anything that does not directly glorify the big red checkmark reeks of hypocracy to me.

im pretty sure i said that cingular had a great quarter. im not trashing cingular in any way.

Im merely stating the VZW had a better quarter. my little example about any exec with the two sheets of paper showing unbranded results choosing verizon wireless's 100% of the time is correct and should end this arguement.

Perhaps another way to look at it, for those of you that are in sales.

Would you rather A) Sell 100 phones and make $900 or B) sell 90 phones and make $1000.

The ultimate goal in business, or for any of us that make a living in sales is to make the most money, not to sell the most units.
