🤣 I think it's funny to see the guys at the vz forum trying to convince themselves about the ways the iphone "is not" going to change the cell phone industry

I am not verizon and I don't think it is going to change wireless. I am sorry but I don't want them together. My phone takes a beating in my days at work and other things I do. I drop it and hit it when its on my side. I prefer to have a separate Ipod that when I have it my sole purpose it to listen to music. I don't carry it to work or anything else. Yes people will buy it don't get me wrong. The ones that have to have the newest stuff or the ones that think its the coolest thing. But over all people that work for a living wont do it. It is too much money and from what i get Cingular does not insure all their phones. Practically the high dollar one. Now if they do then my argument loses some value but not enough to make me get one!

Apparently this is only the first phone made by Apple for Cingular. They've announced an exclusive partnership for phones, not just this one.

You'll probably see more phones come out in the future, and just as there are sure to be more advanced ones, there are also likely to be simpler ones.

your right. They will possible have a whole line up of phones if this does even ok. But that doesn't mean they will be good. we will have to wait and see I guess. I am not a fan of apple. They jump to the easiest thing the can. Proven when they jumped to intel chips. Next the phone will say apple on it but really its a moto in disguise! Ok maybe I toolk that a little far 🤣 🤣 🤣

The move to Intel chips was the make them more of a market player. Now we have macs that can run Windows and OSX. Apple products have always been intuitive and easy to use, which is something cell phones can benefit from.

Also, it's not just possible that there will be more phones. "Cingular announces today an exclusive partnership with Apple Computer Inc. to create revolutionary new wireless products. The first of these products is the iPhone, an innovative wireless phone combining the reliability of the Cingular network with the simplicity and functionality of an iPod."

That clearly implies plurality.

If this flops do you honestly think they will make others? Not saying it will but if. Their is never ever clear things in business!

and what makes you think that it is going to flop? The price? Cuz it is obvious that the tech savvy folks and the early adopters (and Cingular has plenty of them) don't really mind the price. The have 6 months to start saving for it 😉

True, I am already going to buy this phone when it comes out, I am not going to buy any more phones until this thing comes out (I am so glad that I switched to Cingular, thanks to my 8525, i have never not had a signal, trying to get a signal at my desk at work is trying to get one in the abyss, it just doesn't happen but with my HTC, I get one, thanks to GSM and WCDMA)...

and also Wombough - in the last few years there are rarely things that Apple and Jobs flop on, I think Bill Gates and Microsoft have flopped on more things than Jobs has.

Yes and that was the other point I was going to make, is that this is the beginning of the end for some manufacturers that can't keep up because yes the first cell phones were expensive, but look at them now, just like the iphone is going to be, and its offspring.

You do realize by june that they may lower the price and it can be 3G, I mean it is only coming out starting in June! Not to mention, this phone is unlike anything we have seen, yes we have had touchscreens with stylus, but this thing is smart like an ipod touch wheel. Not to mention Apple this thing, you know why their computers are expensive, because they are ten times better than HP and Dell, and I am from Texas, where there is home turf. 8Gs also means that the phone will be less likely to bog down, which is a practical applicaton not just for music. I am sorry but people are kidding themselves to think this phone will not have an impact, because its coming out in 5 months and people can't stop talking about it.

I don't think that the iphone will "change the cell phone industry", since we've been seeing mp3 functions on handsets for a couple of years now. However, since the iphone is Apple manufactured, I'm personally hoping that there will be different models to come from the company. The iphone looks kickin' and I'm sure the quality rocks. I just wish they'd cut a deal with Sprint... 😁

Ok there are MP3 phones, then there is an iphone with 8Gs and the possibility of a memory slot addition...that is not your typical MP3 phone, oh yeah and the phone will have GPS, powered by GOOGLE MAPS, this phone goes beyond MP3, and with Apple running apps, they are more reliable than windows, and the touch screen is technology that was taking right out of where lap tops are going, so this thing is going to change the market...look how far we have come in the last 10 years alone, do you really thing progression was going to stop?

I am currently a VZW subscriber (contract is up this summer), but am looking to make the switch with the iphone coming to Cingular (I'm a big apple fanboy). Could anybody shed some light on how well Cingular has coverage in NYC? I'm probably going to go with them regardless because of that iPhone, but I'd like to know what kind of service I'd be getting with that sweet phone. 🤣

i really hope this phone does well, even though im currently a sprint customer.. we will have to see what happens. like the rokr that took a leap from the high dive and did a belly flop.. even though that phone flopped what it did do is start a trend and change the wireless industry.. apple starts this new "iPhone" and many other will be following right behind.. and im like most other people, i have my cell phone for talking and my iPod for when i want to listen to my music.. these phones arent really necessary

I'm currently a Cingular employee and subscriber since 2003 who just happens to live in NYC, and I must say service has improved year after year. The coverage now is pretty damn good ( in the beginning it was flaky lol) I love my service.Cingular offers a 30 day trail period so I would say use that time to try out the service don't just take my opinion for it try it out yourself, oh and I will be definitely getting that iphone 😁

Yes it is goingto change the cell phone industry. Apple has raised the bar so above what other manufacturers are making it will force all of them to really start pushing the envelope. This Iphone is the best thing that ever could have happened to us reps tha work in this industry. Who knows where we will be a year from now. 😎

Mac OS - New

I guess that the MacOS will cause the shifting of the industry as we know it. 🙄 I would love to see this increase competition between manufacturers, and it probably will. But what it won't do, is revolutionize the industry. Sorry, this isn't a merger.

It's a very nice device, but you can't say that it's not hyped. It hasn't even been released and all over PS it's all you see. HYPE

What is new about the phone is the operating system no phone ever has come even close when it comes to ease of use. The phone can do all of the things others can do plus it makes it almost to easy it is a whole new look to the operating system a one that is so good it makes every other phone look like it is from the stone age. Just watch the unvailing video see the phone in action then come back here and talk to me cause your post tells me you have never seen what thisphone can do.

I saw a clip of the video. I just don't believe an OS is an industry changing feature. There's no doubt the phone will be nice, but it's not an industry changing device, which some people are touting it as.

Operating systems always get upgraded/changed, it's like cell phone evolution. Unless of course you're a VZW customer, then you're stuck.

I was also reading on they were working on having 3G capabilites for this phone when it releases in June, we have to remember its not coming out until June, as in the month of June. January (this month), February, March, April, May, JUNE!lol Its not coming out this month, nor next month, but JUNE! 139 Days away, and a couple of Holidays. Plenty of time.

It says no 3G as of now. I've never built phones, so who knows if it's simple to add in that antenna or not.

A safe bet would be that there's no 3G.

I wonder how easily the screen will scratch on the iphone. It seems that this being a 100% touchscreen phone the screen will get some extremely heavy usage. I will need to be convinced that the screen isn't going to get all the tiny scratches that phones like the blackjack.

Sure it does, UMTS is Wide band CDMA.
Check out the new 3G phones that are coming out... They have a Qualcomm sticker on them becuase you have to use the Qualcomm chipset for UMTS/HSDPA.

My Blackjack has the sticker on the top near the on/off button....

The contract covers "all models" of the iPhone, including several other devices in the works that may be "coming out very quickly," Lurie said. His comment addressed in part a criticism that the iPhone doesn't use Cingular's new high-speed HSDPA network. 🤤
