I was breezing through the new look site and notice there was a $19.99 unlimited data add on with xpress mail, what's the deal with that?

Here's the link... http://www.cingular.com/cell-phone-service//c ell-phone-plans/smartphone-connect-plans.jsp

So for example, I wanted the Samsung Blackjac and got the 39.99 450 min plan, it's only $20 extra per month to go through the internet unlimited? What's the catch? Anybody...

page not found.

Anyway, the Blackjack is a PDA and requires a PDA connect plan. The unlimited is $39.99

I don't know for sure what cingular considers a "smartphone" .. but the E62 has a full HTML webbrowser and its fabulous.. unless Cingy ripped out or crippled the browser that come with the OS (S60).. I think the IE that comes with the Windows phones also does full html.. just not that well 😉

The 2125 and 3125 are the only two smart phones at the moment (that can use the 19.99 plan). Both of these have full html browsing, but lack a full keyboard (and larger screen).

The general rule is, if it has a keyboard (either suretype, or qwerty) it has to get either the pda, or blackberry plan.

I thought Blackjack was considered a Smartphone since it ran the Smartphone version of the Windows Mobile software.

Tons of confusion and I know if I call two different customer service reps they will both have opposite answers, anybody know for sure?

It is considered a PDA. Anything with a suretype or qwerty keyboard is classified as a PDA (as far as Cingular is concerned).

I probably should go check out the 3125 in store, but I wonder how small the screen is.

the i607 is a smartphone according to microsoft, samsung, and the rest of the world. cingular is different, any phone windows or palm with a qwerty keyboard and is not a blackberry is considered a PDA and requires PDA connect. touchscreen or not. it's very stupid, but that's corp america for ya.

yep, i'm afraid so. if you find a rep that will do it though, you're good. either will work. but since features make reps more money, the higher feature will but more in their pocket. always good to know a rep personally to maintain your account. 😁

Well in my situation I have to call a toll free number because my job gets a discount on phones and rate plans so everything will be done over the phone.

I called and got the 19.99 unlimited plan added for my blackjack. The rep had no idea what I was talking about so they conferenced in a "tech guy" who tried to tell me that the blackjack ran full edition of Windows mob. 5.0 per his "sources" even though I told him my box and software CD says Smartphone edition. He never believed me, but we got past that. Anyway he tried to say that the 19.99 unlim. smartphone plan would work, but certain websites may not display correctly because this plan was designed for lower level browsing with smartphones and not higher level functions such as flash, etc. PDA's use, although he could not specify a single site that would not "display correctly." He said I was free to use the 19.99 one, but warned tha...

it can't. the pricing point affects the conection, media net, isp... ect.
the 19.99 smartphone connect is designed for non qwerty smartphones... without a keyboard they figure you will use less data.

That's true.

Unless they run one of their "audits" and realize you have a pda with the wrong plan... Hopefully you don't get caught up with an outrageous bill.

I've only seen one person where it was removed by the fraud dept and they were billed at the pay per use rate. (I didn't do it). He ended up paying half the charges (they required him to add the pda conn to his account to get the credits). O yea I put the PDA Conn in my name 🙂

if fraud caught it then they weren't looking for mismatching features. they were looking at something else. by law cingular has to honor features on the account until the end of the customers current billing cycle. then remove it. if it was changed then they were investigating comp codes or something.

The rep and tech guy told me that with the 19.99 plan I would have unlimited and not be charged any extra fees, but re-iterated that some sites may not work as well with this plan as they would the more expensive plan - which just means they want more money. There is no way they can come back later and make you pay more after an audit, because a rep and a tech guy approved it before it was added. Also there is no denying the blackjack is a "smartphone" because it runs windows smartphone edition and says it is a smartphone with the box that cingular sent. Everyone should just get the 19.99 and avoid getting ripped off.

Cingular can and will remove the feature.

It doesn't matter what software it uses, if Cingular classifies it as a PDA, that's what it is. There is no arguing with them.

There are no unlimited text packages. The $19.99 is just for internet... technically. I haven't seen the "smartphone connect" package in the system for awhile so I've just been giving them the Media Max 200 package which gives them 200 texts with the unlimited internet.
