i heard down the line that cingular will switch the company name back to AT&T of whom they have integrated with. Is this true? If so what would be the purpose? AT&T name more renown?

Yes Cingular will be switching back to the ATT Wireless name, mostly in part to the SBC buying ATT and Bellsouth. I'm assuming the name is more prominent, but I'm also thinking how much will be saved with advertising for both Cingular and ATT corporate.

Cost savings? 🤣 Are you serious?

Cingular spent over 4 billion dollars branding At&t to Cingular and now they are doing it all over again.

Gotta love how they waste money.

it won't be cingular wasting the money this time. parent company AT&T is footing the bill.

I'd rather have a company investing in its product quality versus "growing the brand" that it is only going to be replaced shortly thereafter.

i agree. i think we should stay cingular, but it's SBC/at&t's decision to have one company and one name.

Hmmm, one name. That's billions less each year on having to advertise and market two brands.

Any AT&T commercial will automatically prod the consumers brain and connect it with all the services they offer. Wireless for wireline. Satellite for DSL. All of them.

It will save them more money than they will have spent on rebranding.

The two different AT&T companies were only affiliated by name. The AT&T Company that bought SBC has WAY MORE MONEY Than all of the wireless companies put together. So I do not think that the rebranding is going to hurt them any. AT&T is almost as big as Microsoft. They own parts of almost all comunication companies in the US and some international. I would expect better Phones when their money takes over. Due to better negotiation skills on pricing and more volume. A huge increase in cell sites. This is a very good thing. We will also see a decrease in these so called unprofitable customers as per the new upg policy. AT&T has a very good habit of turning profit from where there is none. There is a very good reason this company has been ther...

First of all, you're not telling me anything I don't already know.

Secondly, it doesn't matter what affiliation AT&T and AT&T Wireless had. They are both one in the same now. That's what counts, and that's what is going to save them advertising/marketing money each year.

Next, there are no additional cell sites, aside from the ones that Cingular are putting up as we speak. The AT&T Wireless acquisition is long done with. And Cingular as a company is receiving no more money than they always have been. SBC and Bellsouth own them now, and they will own them when they become one single entity. No new pockets there.

And finally, I agree that the rebranding of Cingular to AT&T isn't going to hurt them. I stated it was beneficial to...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, cowboy. ATT did not buy SBC, SBC bought the ATT name, until that happened, ATT was practically dead in the water. The new ATT is really SBC in disguise. ATT was in peices when SBC bought it and used the ATT name to bring them more worldwide recognition.
