Let's speculate Q2

OJ, it's no secret that the network keeps improving more and more each day. Now, let's point out other things that are not talked about much.

PTT: We are gaining market share. 😁 Our PTT phones are better than the competition. VZW has only 2, and these are the same phones they came up with more than a year ago. T-Mobile lacks PTT. (I'll leave Sprextel out since they have Nextel, and they introduced PTT to the USA) Still our PTT phones are nicer than theirs, but of course they have more. 😕

CSRs: They are getting their act together.

TDMA: By now I think that less than 10% of our customer base still has one of these obsolete phones. We are doing a great job by offering these customers great deals (in the mail) on new GSM phones. ...

that high for net adds? im thinking 1.8m for cingular, and probably 1.8 or 1.9 mil for the evil empire.

or will cingular finnally surpass the empire in net adds ?? could this be the quarter? time will tell.

2000? Nah.

Beat in 2004 and tied in 2005 (rounding). Ever since the merger, the net adds have been pretty tight.

I'm with you on the adds, but I believe churn will be lower, especially with the different commission structure. Reps are actually "working" to upgrade customers now instead of pushing them off... I've seen this aspect improve drastically after the commission structure changed.

lol yea they do... it's under 1 percent now though... They're gonna be in for a surprise when they try to make a call one day and it doesn't work, anywhere.

Are you sure it's under 1 percent? At the end of Q1 2006 89% of our customer base was on GSM equipment. Now, if it's under 1% is great, but do you really think that all these customers upgraded to GSM in less than 3 months? 😲 👀 Dang! That's a lot of upgrades 👀

Here's a link to Q1 results (last paragraph)

Maybe I mis-spoke... It's under 1% in my market (unless I'm remembering incorrectly) If I am, I'm sorry... I'll check into it when I get a chance and confirm what I wrote...

That's ok, we all do at one point or another. I much less than others (j/k) 🤣
Anyway, have you seen the new PTT commercials? The magic of TV... Customers are flocking to get them (at least in my store) I only have four sammy D407 left (of 30 we ordered last week) So far none has come back!

Judging by the performance of the z520a. I can guarantee you that the z525 will be the #1 PTT phone in our line up. I have been pushing SE phones a lot since the z520a came out. That's a great phone and what I like the most about them is that they don't come back as much as others (LG) 😈
If someone comes in to get an LG C2000 I do everything I can so they don't. 🤣

interesting points.. i actually agree with you on everything but the push to talk points with regarding taking market share.. it will be impossible to beat out sprint-nextel (mainly becuase of boost) in this arena, but against verizon i will give cingular the edge..

there will be an agressive rollout on behalf of cingular to roll out umts/hsdpa so they can try to take market share from the dominant sprint and other carriers. i dont think they will but we shall see. video calling? not sure if there is a market for it yet.. not sure if it would be economical friendly to do so.. not sure if it will be popular and this isnt what cingular should focus its energy and effort on.. it should focus on tv, content and other things.

i think your...

oh ya i forgot one thing, which is very important.. (i pressed enter on my last post to you forgetting to add the following)

i think that cingular should address the problems facing with coverage (not so much anymore) but more importantly the problems with their prepaid unit which is very important for growing in this saturating market.

any views on what i just mentioned?

I disagree about prepaid coverage. I think cingular just needs to improve the obvious customer experience as a whole. That includes better products and call quality across the entire network. Cingular's roaming partners that are still TDMA need to go GSM at a faster rate. This is still a problem in a lot of areas. My predictions are 1.8 million net add-ons and 1.6 churn. I think ARPU will go up a little bit due to higher internet and third party content. My prediction is Cingular/Verizon willl be around the same in add-ons. I think Verizon churn will be even lower than expected. I think Verizon's ARPU will also be a little higher than last quarter as V-cast has become more popular. I think Sprint/Nextel will struggle a little bit they still ...

i wasnt talking about prepaid coverage, but i was talking about them as seperate issues becuase quite frankly they need to improve coverage overall but most importantly they need to fix their woes with their prepaid product. as mentioned before this market is becoming very saturated and the carriers must do everything in their powers to offset the problem and by doing joint ventures, mvnos and prepaid will help.

i am excited for cingular that they are improving on their coverage and integration seems to be finally working in order and no significant problems are coming up. (unlike before)

" think ARPU will go up a little bit due to higher internet and third party content. "

this has to deal with data arpu and not voice arpu. that...

Yes, there are two types of ARPUs; one is voice ARPU and one is data ARPU.
