cricket dude

May 3, 2006, 1:09 PM
hey ppl...i just got my cingular phone bout 3 weeks ago after having cricket for years, i wanted cingular because of the " grate service"....well i notice that my phone makes noises here and there while im talking on the phone and with cricket i have never had that problem ...isnt cingular better than cricket? i thought..it could be the band im on to?....another thing cingular says it uses bands 800/850/1900 but quad band phones use GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900..so does that mean if i get the quad band phone my phone wont make any noises while im talking on the phone....and i have a lg c1500.

More than likely the phone. If you get a quadband phone won't make any difference. Quadband phones are world phones, they have all the frequencies used in the world. Here is the USA a dual band phone will get the job done!

When I had Cingular, my phones made the same annoying noise. Now that I am with VZ, I...

It might mean, it won't make any noise if you use it in Europe... j/k... Take it back to the store.

By the way, what kind of noises? When you're near computer speakers or the handset itself? It could be a WMD...

how do you "know"?

you switch between 850 and 1900 and 850 semlessly depending on which freq. is being broadcast in your area.

and neither frequency should be causing the noises. it sounds like a deffective handset, or if you give us a better description of whats happening, we can tell you what it is.

Its most likely not the handset. My service has continually gotten worse over the past several months, along with every other Cingular user I know. (I keep my ears open and start conversations over these things bc I was an employee for 6 years)

My phone garbles, drops calls, makes weird sounds with peoples voices, etc. The list goes on. Sometimes it takes like 10 seconds for the phone to start dialing the other #. All kinds of s#!t. And folks, please dont say it "could" be my phone...Ive had the same Treo 650 for almost a year, have never dropped it, no software bugs, no aftermarket software, etc, and its still getting bad. So moral of the story is dont take the "defective phone" crap bc chances are youre jsut another sucker on this ...

im going to clear up some things,

GSM operates in 4 bands, 850/1900 (U.S., Canada) 900/1800(Rest of the world), that noise, seems to be a characteristic of TDMA-based technology, like GSM and IDEN(nextel), i exactly dont know y it makes those weird noises because i hear the same thing when im on my computer and my speakers are on, or when i have the phone near the t.v. or when im wearing headphones, my guess would be that either the speakers are improperly shielded from RF signals, or the GSM and IDEN,

GSM and IDEN are almost similiar, they both operate in a narrow band that is about 30 kHz wide and 6.7 milliseconds long is split time-wise into three time slots., and i think since it does that, it makes a weird noise when the phone...

Oh come on man, get real. Like they always say: "Features Tell, Benefits Sell". Fact of the matter is, he is experiencing something that a vast majority of Cingular users across the nation are experiencing: reduced service experience as a direct result of all the budget cutting/nickel & diming/corner cutting that has been going on for the past year now.

Never mind all the milliseconds, gHz, verbal diahrea, etc (you forgot to include many parts of Central and South America into the 850 and 1900 mHz speil of yours), but in fact CDMA is actually a very stable service, which is why Verizon is slowly but SURELY going to chomp down on Cingular's total net customers in the very near future.

Go back to reading your network science books.

well im a cingular customer, and im completely satisfied by their service, and i see how everyone complains about poor customer service, i occassionally have to call them, never experienced anything bad or had to deal with imcompetent cs reps. i guess people have it better or worse than others.

"but in fact CDMA is actually a very stable service", you say that like i badmouthed CDMA or sumthing,

Ok that's it! 😡 😡 😡
Why don't you just STFU! PLEASE, you are embarrasing yourself in here.
Cingular customers across the nation experincing reduced service? WTF? How can you speak for all customers in america? You sound like a blue CSR (still pissed about the merger) Get over it. Yes, unfortunate some blue customer might experience poor coverage for not having a 64K/Cingular phone. This can be fixed quickly by migrating over.
I think I read (prev thread) that you ARE a Cingular employee, well let me tell you that with employees like you; we don't need competition, becuase you are driving customers away by simply working for us with your attitude. Shame on you.
CDMS is very stable? yes! So is GSM.

Cingular spent 344 million on tower build up and upgrades in 2005 and 2006 in North CArolina and Western S. Carolina alone. How the fu(k is that nickle and diming?

By the way, people, the original thread posted by "Cricket Dude" never said anything about that noise we all experience when our GSM phones are by a speaker....he's talking abou that whack blip that replaces a word (or several) of someone we are talking to or a VM we are listening to that causes us to say "Wait, what did you just say?" or "Can you hear me now?" Ha ha 🤣

Due to the frequency that the GSM radio uses, you will hear your unshielded speakers make that "noise" which is essentially the phone and the nearby tower communicating. If you have unlimited Medianet and you leave it on, the data comes in packet burst, and that is also heard thru the speakers.
Similar to the old AOL/Dial-up modem/fax machine noise. If you have shielded speakers, then you won't hear that "noise" at all...
