How's the Service? How's the Company???

Currnetly thinking of switching over to Cingular since they are now really AT&T once again after being with Verizon for 6 years. VZW just doesn't have the coolest phones and new gadets...but...before I do...

How's the service with Cingular? Reception? Customer Service? Features? Problem resolution? Policies?

Just looking for your feedback before making any changes.

Thanks for your time!

Those were some of the lamest responses. As is often said on this forum. You need to do your own objective testing. Make use of the 30 day trial period. If service is not up to your liking during this period, return it and try another carrier.

Okay,

I am a VZW customer and this past weekend I picked up a Samsung D307 with Cingular's service. The phone is right good and I have gotten lucky the two times I had to call CS (to add ins and my MMS settings were wrong). The calls are clear as long as I don't move but in the car (top down) and at my usual stops, the quality really fades in an out, like I'm standing in the wind.

I have put my sim in other phones that were on display at Circuit City and my call quality was about average, the SLVR and RAZR sounded really good but I want the QWERTY keyboard the D307 has.

My call quality in my house is very poor (my VZW's phones are a little better but not much. I have a spanish style hacienda and my house is all stucco (about 18" ...

adilus,
i saw the post and response that you and averagejoe had and i hoped that you didn't give up on Cingular because of that one exchange. i'm glad that you gave Cingular a try and i know that in my own travels that the Arizona/New Mexico area is not the best of areas for signal. they were only slightly better than my stint in nevada and then again in oregon.

i live in central new york and i have great coverage and signal, same goes for down closer to new york city. to be honest, the closer you are to a major city or a major highway the better your signal will be.

like any phone you get what you pay for. the samsung D307 is a nice phone, i've never been a fan of samsung but i did like the form factor for this handset. i haven't ...

So far the experience hasn't been that bad. I took back the Samsung just because the buttons were odd and I kept on fat fingering the keypad. I got the RAZR and my call quality has been much better than I thought it would. Its also a quad band for when I go to the UK.

Also, I'm not going to let a wanker of a kid decide for me what is best for me. I was just a fool for letting myself get caught up init and not just dilligaf'ing it.

I still have the same question and have been testing a Cingular phone in the 91406 area for about a month to see if I really want to change over from Verizon for the same reason you have. I don't have a problem with dropped calls or coverage, but there is one serious problem I keep having on the Cingular system. Many times when it would be typical to have a lot of people using their phoens, such as rush hour or heavy traffic, I find that every call I make gets no connection, and the message that gets returned to me is "the cell phone provider you are calling is not available. please try again later." This is even when calling non cell phones or to answering machines that are available. This is a problem I don't have with Verizon. I pull out ...

reception is horrible, customer service is nearly as bad. if you are really unhappy with verizon wireless phone selection and do not want to wait a few months for some of the big new phones to drop, then id go with sprint.

hes already with verizon wireless.. hes not happy with vzw for a reason he did not specify, for that reason I did not feel it necessary to post why verizon wireless would be good for him apparently its not working out good for him.

I merely posted my opinion's of cingulars service and offered another option, sprint.

what would have been a better response, in my opinion, would have been to ask him why he was unhappy with Verizon. the best way to figure out a customer's needs would have been to ask them questions or offer examples.

i'd be more than happy to help you work on your salesmanship.

The only customer service department ranked lower than Cingular is Sprint. Reception varies on Sprint and every other Carrier brain functioning is flawed and reduced probably by a case stupidity and speaking out of turn.

I have been a Cingular customer in Southern California since 2001 and have loved the service and the company the whole time. My reception has generally been fine - a few drops once in a great while, but nothing to complain about. I have ALWAYS had great customer service experiences, whether on the phone or in a store. Over the past year or so I have had reason to exchange 2 different phones - one by mail, one in-store - and both processes went smoothly and were satisfying.

From what I've seen over the years and have read on this forum, there will always be good and bad with every provider. You just have to try it out for yourself and see what works best where you live and which service, features, and phones make you happy. Like someo...

I keyed in your zip code into T-Mobile's coverage map and it shows that you have excellent coverage in your area. T-Mobile is number one for thier customer satisfaction, and you get a lot of minutes for your dollar.

Right now you can get 1500 whenever minutes for 39.99 a month. Another good plan is the Get More plan which gives you 600 Whenever minutes plus unlimited nights and weekends for 39.99 a month.

Cingular only gives you 450 for 39.99 with nights and weekends.

T-Mobile's great. They have fantastic customer support and the service is very stable if you live in their somewhat limited coverage area. You really can't beat their data service prices either.

But make sure you are in one of the spots on their coverage map with dense coverage. They can be spotty in places. When I visit my family in upstate NY I only get a signal on major roads and highways.

I am thinking of switching to Cingular as well though. My gf uses Cingular and I use up all my daytime minutes calling her. And alas, she's in NY so T-Mobile isn't an option. 🙂

If you are comfortable getting the extreme sides of the argument then ask away.

Better off asking local friends, family and co-workers. You will get a more accurate and relevant opinion to your needs. Verizon is a great carrier as is Cingular. Check locally, rather than a national site with fanboys and extreme haters to offer up their slanted views.
