nokia 1100 sim work with z520?

I got my mom the z520 for Christmas. However, when I got home, there was no sim card in the box. I figured since I paid for a phone and signed a one year contract, I should get a new sim card, right?

Is Best Buy gonna believe me if I say "Hey, I got home and there was no sim card in the box?"

If they are stingy, and they don't want to give me another sim card, will my mom's old Nokia 1100 work just as well as the newer sims in the z520?

More than likely you have a 32K SIM in the 1100, which will work in the Z520. But I would however as soon as you get a chance go into your local Corporate Cingular store and get a new SIM. You should notice a huge difference in reception and dropped call issues. BTW once you get a new 64K SIM it will not work in the 1100.

Man, Cingular (and I guess other cell phone companies) are shady as ....Customers that have been with them for forever get no benefit.

I didn't know that only new lines of service (w/ 2-year contracts) get a free sim card. Customers that have been paying Cingular for years cannot even get a free sim card with a one-year contract...stupid to me.

Ah well, I'm happy with Cingular for the most part.

Thanks for the reply by the way, Pricdlss. So you think the 64K sim will make that much of a difference?

as far as them (bestbuy) charging you for you sim card there has always been a charge for them but bestbuy only gives it out for free with a 2 year contract. i know one of the corp stores in my area has givin me a few for free. try one in your area.

Did you ask for a new SIM card?

Considering it was an upgrade they don't just automatically give you one. And if I upgraded someone I wouldn't automatically give them one either.

If they ask I will give them one no problem but otherwise there is no reason.

Maverick, that's how Cingular is getting its money. They have to do something to "pimp" their long time customers since they're losing a lot of its customer base to Verizon. It seems that they don't value loyalty for some reason or another.

if you signed a contract for the phone then you should get a free sim. the only time you don't get a free sim is if you get a phone from bestbuy with no contract. and you definatly want a newer sim card the 32k will work but for smooth phone conversation you want the 64k.

I change alot of sims for existing customers at no charge in my store, regardless of where they are in their contract. Especially if they're still using the 32k sim. I think all stores should do it just to give the end user a better overall experience.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. I'll ask around to see if I can get a free one first, as Best Buy is selling it for $30.

If anyone has a 32k sim stores are supposed to give out a 64k for free, unless of course it's for a Nokia 1100. Usually if it's a technical issue with the sim card, tech support can note that they need a new one for free and the store will have to comply. But if a customer is stupid enough not to read their manual and enter in a sim pin too many times and then not call to get the PUK code, then they need to pay 25.00 in punishment for pure stupidity.

There has been no directive to automatically replace SIM chips, regardless of their technology.

I guess it's been mainly in customer service that we've been told to send customers to stores if they've still got 32k sims. The whole ENS directive, you know? I know when I had a 32k sim I went into a Cingular store and said I needed a 64k sim to replace my 32k sim and I got it without any problems. Don't think they even checked the notes on the account.

If someone comes in asking for one then no one argues but nothing has ever been sent out to say "replace all 32k sims". There is nothing on CSP nor is there a general "just try to do it" campaign as well.

Now, we aren't in an integrated market and have only a few towers on from the ATTWS side. When the merger took place there was no difference or problems created by the alternate system. Most of the ATTWS towers are also due to be decommissioned versus integrated.

I don't give customers with a 32k SIM a 64k SIM but I do let them know they have one waiting in the store just in case they need one. For those that are less trusting, I put a blank unused one in the box and tell them to come back if they want to convert.
