Is there any new information on the release date for this phone? My fiance has Cingular and I have T-mobile so I am considering getting an account but the timing depends on this phone as I would like to get the best deal possible. Also, would I get a better deal by opening a seperate account or would I come out just as well converting hers to family talk and getting it that way? Last question, is it possible to avoid activation fees as I know a while back these were commonly waived to get subscribers but I don't know if that's the case anymore. I currently have an unlocked RAZR V3 that I was going to give her if I get the V3i and was told to add that to her account would cost 25 for a sim and something like 36 for activation although I ...

The V3i probably wont be out until the first quarter of next year.

As far as activation goes, you'll get the same price on the phone if you decide to open your own plan or if you convert hers to a familytalk. If you convert hers to a familytalk, your activation fee will be lower but you will still have one ($18 in most areas, $26 in others). I recommend changing hers to a familytalk and adding yourself onto it.

$25 is the common price (market value) of a SIM card, and the rest of what you've been told seems correct.

If I convert hers to family talk now and use the phones we currently own will that add time on to her contract and will it hurt me getting a better price on the V3i when it does come out. I know generally you get a better deal if you are getting the phone when you do this kind of thing as opposed to after.

If you convert hers it wont add time to her number, but you'll have to sign up on at least a one year contract on your number since it's a family plan. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there are non-promotional options of familytalk plans. If there are, you'll be on a familytalk plan that does not include M2M to avoid having a contract on your number. Then whenever the phone comes out, you can do an "upgrade" which is to sign up on a contract to receive a discount on the purchase of a handset. There is an $18 fee associated with an upgrade, however, so if you really watch every nickel and dime I'd hold out a while. If $18 doesn't mean much, look for a non-promtional familytalk plan.

as long as the primary line (hers) is under contract, you can switch plans and add a line with no contract on the second line(provided you have the phone already).

I would go with ralph and say first part of next quarter due to the lack of any visible merchandising for the phone in stores, the absence of even a pre-launch notification and the large stock of v3 razrs.. We are no longer receiving silver razrs... so that may be a sign.

I wouldnt say its impossible for the new razr to popup before christmas, but very unlikely...

Oh and about the activation fee... its a blue moon event for them to be waived by Cingular. Often times you will see resellers advertising a waived activation but its really just a credit for 36 (or 26) dollars in the form of a rebate or discount on equipment. ATTWS used to waive activation fees back in the day, and used to have it written into business contracts... From what I have seen of business contracts recently rewritten for Cingular service, the activation fee clauses are absent.
