Should Customers Research Phones????

onecingular

In another thread a person said, "all I know is that the customer should research the phones before buying"....But if they are bad phones, should Cingular, or Motorola or Nokia, promote those phones, sending out mailers saying you can upgrade to a V180...come on now, we now the V180 sucks. About once a day, I have customers come in saying I read bad things about this phone and I want to know why
Cingular would promote this item or sell this item, if Cingular knows it has problems. Just wondering what you guys think.

Should the customer be responible to reasearch the phones, before buying?????

Yes, a consumer is solely responsible for his/her own purchases. If they go into a store (in any industry) and make a purchase solely based upon what a salesperson told them, they are responsible for whatever goes wrong with that item that they purchased. An educated consumer makes a wise purchase and therefore is normally much happier with their purchase.

its all inventory clearing, everyone does it.
for instance, moto says to cingular "hey, this new v180 is awesome. it does all this.... for $x.xx
cingular says "great. what deal can ya give me"
moto says "if you buy in bulk, we'll give ya a better deal.
cingular says "ok"

later on

customers buy because its a good deal. this happens for months and they keep comin back with probs. the phones are replaced two or three times on average and reps stop selling the thing. now cingular has a bunch in stock and nothing to do with em except replace broken phones for customers.
eventually, when that stock gets low, moto comes out with a quadband model that they say fixed everything and cingular trusts moto. they buy a bunch and relay t...

All carriers put out phones they shouldn't, or don't function the way they should. A smart consumer will do a little research before they buy. Buyer Beware

Not 100% neccessarily, but it is a two way street.

Cingular has a very strict testing process, which is why so many different phones are delayed for release. Regardless of the phone model and price range, all phones will have bugs. I have the Treo 650, and its riddled with more bugs than a Bronx subway.

But so many of these customers are lured by price, and dont care about functions or features, so they settle for the freebie or lowest price phone. That part is not our fault, they get what they pay for.

But our warranty process takes within days, when it would take weeks or months through the manufacturer.

true. the v180 cant be made to the same quality as the razr and be priced lower. then there would be no draw to get a razr. but thats an extreme example. the v180/220 simply blows almost as bad as sonyericson's and lg's

Yeah it seems every manufacturer is having troubles more than usual. I've seen more black RAZRs come back lately, the p207 continues to freeze, Treos are a disaster, the Nokia 6682 is full with bugs. Low end and high end are all worse than usual.

I wonder what it is. Could Cingular be nickle and diming them too?

Probably - VZW is pretty horrible in how it treat cell phone makers. Given that Cingular continues to steal from me I assume they have no qualms pinching pennies with the cell makers.

I THINK THE CUSTOMER SHOULD DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH THE HAVE A SALESPERSON BACK IT UP. BUT IF U BUY ONLINE ITS ALL ON U. AND A BIG REMINDER TO ALL YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR.
LEAVE THE "FREE PHONE" (CONRACT LOCKER) ALONE AND YOU WONT HAVE THAT PROBLEM.

Well, the V180 was rated as the best non-camera phone by CNET and MSN.

All phones have occasional issues that Cingular carries. It doesn't make them bad.

There are many bad cars in the world, yet manufactures still sell them. You should always research products before buying. Would you buy a gallon of milk with one day left on the experation. I hope not, you would look at the date and try to find the gallon that will last the longest. The carriers don't try and sell you poor products, but some products work better for different people and each will have its drawbacks and recalls, that's why you look into it. If it has a poor rating from current owners, it may be best to stay away from it. Yes, carriers should try not to carry phones that have issues, but then if they did that, they would either carry Nokia only or maybe no phones at all.

My manager told me yesterday he would eat expired meat from a grocery store dumpster. Based on that information, I can assuredly say that some people would buy milk one day before expiration.
