Bad Cingular sales support.

My wife an I are looking to get new cellphones and a new carrier. I went to Cingular store in the mall and was shocked by how little help they where.
1. Does Cingular have a phone that supports bluetooth OBEX and DUN?

2. Can I use it with my laptop every once in a while to get email and such when I am traveling without paying for a big data account?

3. When does nights and weekends start? Do I have an option to start them sooner?

My wife's family has all moved to Verizon but I do not like they way they cripple their phones. I could pick up a 815 and hack it but I would like to go with a company that doesn't do play stupid tricks.

Actually it was a Cingular store not a kiosk. I kind of figured that the kiosks where mostly a waste of time but I had more hope for an actual Cingular store.

The only thing Cingular has going for it is a large network and GSM phones.

Their customer service sucks a55 - they still owe me money.

OK, what is so wrong with going to a Cingular store in a mall??? In my area, that is where most of the Cingular Corporate stores are.

whats wrong with cingular stores in a mall? I happen to work in a cing store thats in a mall and we do everything we can to help the customer. We happen to be the # 2 store in our region. True the #1 store is a free standing store, but we're hanging right there with them.

Like I said it was a Cingular store in the mall not a Kiosk. However they still didn't know what OBEX was.

1. All bluetooth phones support OBEX. not sure off the top of my head about DUN.

3. nights are 9p-6a, you can add 7p-7a for $7 for a single line or $14 for entire family talk

Thanks jink7676. I was about to post something similar to that.

I can't really think of a cingular phone that doesn't allow you to DUN. After all we're cingular, NOT VZW. 😛 he he he

DUN is dial-up networking, which is not standard. You can add the fax feature to allow DUN, but it's horribly, horribly, horribly slow. It's so slow you won't even think you're online. If you want to use your phone as a modem you'll need to sign up on a data plan.

OBEX is standard.

Funny I went to another Cingular store and was told that DUN was not supported. Funny my wife asked why the card for the Visor said it supported highspeed data... All we got was that it didn't support DUN.
I have to admit that the dataplan is a sticking point. I would use it only 3 or 4 times a year so paying for it for all year seems a bit much.
I like that they are GSM phones. Maybe I will have to take a good look at TMobile as well. Sprint isn't bad but they do not seem to have any Bluetooth phones to speak of.
