Cingular gets the boot from the NY BBB

It’s not exactly the end of the world for the nation’s largest wireless carrier when it gets the boot from one state’s Better Business Bureau registry, but it certainly doesn’t make for good press… like this article, for example. Apparently Cingular couldn’t figure out its 20 outstanding or unresolved complaints (of 200 total) over the past three years standing in the New York BBB, so they were immediately expelled. We have a feeling this won’t be enough to get them to change their ways, but it’s nice to know that all that whining about poor wireless service can accomplish… something.

First off, they immediately take the position the customer is right so you have to prove your side, not just present the evidence.

Great example: With a former company I had a customer want to return an item outside of the return policy with no box and packing. He only wanted a refund, no store credit as we offered. First, please get all of your facts straight. Upstate NY BBB only serves the areas of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany. Granted that is a large portion of Upstate NY, but in all truthfulness, it is not all of Upstate NY, let alone all of NY state! I live in an area of Upstate NY not covered by that BBB, and can only tell you of positive experiences with Cingular. When I have called CS, issues have been dealt with and immediately, unlike my prior Verizon experience. Plus, BBB participation and cooperation is voluntary. Many good businesses do not even join their local BBB.

Thanks

I certainly won't join them. I have seen their tactics up close and have no interest in giving them my money.
