Looking for a good carrier

Hey everyone! I am desperately looking to get away from Sprint! The only things I like about Sprint are their cellphones & their Ready Link service. I was looking at Verizon, Nextel, & Cingular. I was wondering which one of these offer the best Service and features. I am looking for PTT service, Early nights, and mobile to mobile. Most important is the ability to make phone calls!! I hear Cingular has good service so I wanted someone to help "sell" me on their service. I will post this in the other forums to see what everyone says. The reason I wanted to post it here is because I see there are a lot of cellular employees posting in here. Thanks for your time. 😁

Well, if you don't like Sprint's coverage, don't look towrds Nextel. Verizon and Cingular are about even in coverage and plans, but Cingular has Rollover, which no other carrier offers, as well as the ability to start your N&W early. Verizon does not offer this anymore. Our PTT should be rolling out late next month, and from what i have heard, in testing it is just about a fast as Nextel's (which is considered the "standard" so to speak). Cingular's phone selection is better IMO as well. Some of the new phones coming out in the upcoming month or two with the rollout of PTT look pretty nice. And don't let hearing bad things about customer service scare you off - for 2 reasons: 1. last time around, Cingular DID improve their CS rating - so imp...

First off thank you very much for your reply! I have checked out Cingular's plans and they seem great. I like the early nights as well! I hope the PTT service will be available by the time my contract expires. I am in the New York City area (I forgot to put that down) if that helps. I have 2 months left on my current contract. Can you tell me what kind of phones will be available by then? 😁

You're in luck. Cingular's PTT service is scheduled to be launched October 15th which will be soon enough for you to sign up with Cingular and get their PTT service after your current contract is up. By that time you can expect several new phones, specifically flip phones, to have been launched alongside Cingular's PTT.

Hope this helps. 🙂

That's true, as long as he isn't planning on spreading the word or signing up for multiple lines, like on a family share plan. That way he could PTT between family members and what not.

Yeah most of my family has Cingular (roughly 60%) but the business side is 50% Nextel & 50% Verizon. So I decided to get a Cingular phone for family & friends calls only. 😎 However I am still torn on what phone to get for business... ☚ī¸

ok i dont quite get this PTT thing

1. You can only do it to other users on the same carrier

2. You already have free m2m with cingular on any plan 39.99 and higher

3. PTT is retarded

4. Nobody likes baby monitors

5. Nobody wants to hear your conversation

6. Why not just call them?

Obviously there is a market for PTT if all the national carriers, save T-Mobile, are deploying it.

PTT is not "retarded".

Maybe you should hold your tongue before you sound stupid and scare off potential customers? Just a thought.

just because everyone has SUVs dont mean they are a good thing, the only reason Cingular is bringing it out is to be like everyone else which in itself is poor marketing

Yes PTT is retarded and those that use it are as well, I dont care about your wife telling you to pick up milk after work and all the stupid noises associated with it. I dont need or want to hear your conversation the very fact that people dont have privacy on thier conversations invades mine

You're totally leaving out the business aspect of this. Nobody said it was a good thing for the average consumer, I don't particularly care to hear that Little Johnny was sick all over the new carpet either.

However, PTT is a lot more convenient than making and holding a call for businesses. PTT was Nextel's stronghold on business users, seeing as that is what PTT was initially targeted towards. PTT is a great service to be able to offer the millions of Cingular's business users, and many of them have been anxiously awaiting it's arrival.

PTT is still not "retarded".

It may be retarded for the average joe to use, but for businesses, it can be a great asset. contruction workers, delivery drivers, etc. these people that get poor coverage with Nextel will have an option to switch to a larger network ...

Bingo ... I think you got it, they simply don't understand it! There are only 3 narrow applications that I can think of:

Well I don't know about the average joe but in my line of work the use of PTT is important. FYI I work as a computer tech. Yeah I do agree that for some (mostly young people) the use of PTT is just a fad. 😕
