What data plan might I need?

I just bought a Treo 650 and I need to know if I will need a new data package to take advantage of its features. I currently have a Nokia 6620 with the MediaNet package (5mb, 1000 txt, unl MMS). Would this be ok to use with the treo? From what I understand this package will work but I will only be able to browse WAP website and not full HTML. And if I get a data package I woulld be able to surf full html on the treo. Is this true? I am NOT going to be linking it to a laptop for internet connection. All I am going to use it for is text, internet browsing, and email. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks guys.

you cannot use the media net package. cingular offers different pda connect plans. you should probably use unlimited for 39.99. you will be billed if you try to use your media works package. this 39.99 is totally different than the plans to connect your phone to a laptop, that package unlimited is 74.99 (with voice plan).

Please make sure that they have it right on your account, I have seen charges in the $1000 range for that mistake...

They should have told you that the Media Works pkg would not be sufficient. You need to be on a data plan instead.

🙂 Reading exactly what I write in this message will save you $20.00 a month off your bill if using a PDA. first off I am very close with a lot of the top Executives over at Cingular Wireless and I just wanted to let everyone in the world know that if you have a PDA do not buy the Unlimited PDA Connect Plan for $39.99 all you need to do is call up 611 from your Cingular phone and ask them to put the Media Net Unlimited Plan for $19.99 and it will work exactly, and I mean exactly the same and it will save yourself $20.00 a month! do not let any representative tell you different! I know this for a fact since I have the inside news. I have free cingular phone service but I just wanted to help out the general public. If you have any questions an...

Well heres the deal....

I owned a Treo 650 for about 8 months and kept it on the Media Net unlimmited and everything was just fine. I had no overage fees, and edge seemed to work ok.

I then switch to the Blackberry 8700 and got the date plan because the blackberry required it.

I am now using a Cingular 8125 with the PDA Dataplan but I have a feeling that MediaNet will work as it runs the same as a Treo....

Im going to give this a try by using my back up phone a ROKR and letting them know that I need to use media net on it and switch the sim back into my 8125

When I had my TREO i had no problems using the browser and accessing regular sites on Media Net.. Its simply a data plan, it cant determine what site you use just that yo...

You are wromg, but if you get a big bill for $XXX.XX, because you will SOL for it,then go for it and remember that., can't say i didn't know the difference, since you would have had both the plans, then you are on your own.

MEdianet gives you access to basic email servers and limited websites as well as slower speeds.

If all you want your treo to do is access email and MEdianet pages then fine, save the money.

If you want a full browser and EDGE speeds (you paid for it, why not use it?) then that is why there is a PDA connect plan.

My REAL business name and location is listed on my profile. Feel free to CALL me anytime, not just email.
