i dont know the exact dimensions.. but 970 is slightly bigger than 8100.. but they both are EVDO-vcast enable, bluetooth, SD slot, pic/vid, AND 970 has 2.0 megapixel with optical zoom.. I think verizon has been listening to the complaints on phones and about to roll out with some cool phones.. and I've been waiting for that 😁

They indeed are listening to the complaints. They have opened up bluetooth on the new E815 and VX8100 much more than it was on the V710. The only thing they don't enable with BT now is the OBEX, and the only reason they don't allow that is because they would be held in breach of contract with their BREW suppliers, thus costing VZW a ton of money.

I like cingular (V551) and I love my VZW phone too (E815) it's big yes! I like that, It's guy phone? yes, I love that, gotta love the screen on that moto E815. I have service with both. Why? I have too many friends on both, lol. for me it's cheaper to have two lines and use the M2M and IN calling.
To be honest, since I got my E815 (last wk when it came out) I'm using that one more. I love my 3G phone. EV-DO rocks!

It is a high-end phone, that is why lock\line did not insure it. (Look at the original pricing for it.) There looks to be no change to that policy. When a decision is made to not insure a phone, that decision stands regardless of any other factors (such as a price reduction).

...
dmdrpeon

Jul 13, 2005, 8:02 PM
Phone service providers do not insure any phones. Insurance is provided by a legal insurance company, in accordance with U.S. laws. That decision not to cover it was made by lockline, and they will not insure PDA phones, most smartphones, and certain other models determined to be a high liability risk. That is insurance as an industry: they are proffesional gamblers. The RAZR was put there as a high theft risk, nothing more.

lpfan4vr,

you should really stop holding verizon's jock strap! you'll come crawling back to cingular when you get hit with a roaming charge, or when you think you're "IN" but are actually "OUT OF" network and you are charged for your mobile to mobile calls and your data usage!

h*ll, you probably only want to leave cingular because they wouldnt credit you for something that you didnt deserve credit for in the first place; or some profound request like that! 🙄

a company could have the best customer service in the world, but if the phones don't work it's just pretty-smelling sh...crap 😉

Why can't people understand the logic behind not everything works the same for everyone? It's such a simple concept!
There are just so many people out there with a holier-than-thou attitude that THEIR opinion is the right one.
It's sickening.

And on that note, don't generalize a company for what one person says on a forum. I mean, My God, man! It's a forum! On the internet! A place where everybody and their dog has an opinion and a chance to voice it. Hate the person, not who they're representing.

i love when people claim that their $50 every month is worth giving up the world over. i have customers who pay in excess of $400 per month for say 3 lines (businesses, etc.) THOSE are customers worth keeping and keeping happy.

This guy sounds like in a year he'll be complaining about something Verizon did to wrong him. (no credit for airtime charges since he was off network), smaller M2M area than T-mobile's OVERALL network 😉 , etc.)

i get one of these guys every couple of months and they usually are complaining about other stuff as well (taxes, weather conditions, price of lettuce going up). We let them go. they are not worth dragging down customer satisfaction scores because THEY ...

cingular will not waive it since they DO have coverage in your area, only your phone doesnt work in your house. EVERY comapanys' TOS state they do NOT guarantee coverage in all areas. The paperwork you signed says the following:

"Service is not available at all times in all places. Coverage maps are available at www.cingular.com and are subject to the additional limitations described there. There are gaps in coverage within the service areas shown on coverage maps, which, by their nature, are only approximations of actual coverage. I accept Cingular's service with these limitations"

so that means no waiving of the ETF for you.

Well sorry you are having problems with service. Please not that not all service providers can have towers close enough to your house to give you service. If you really want the phone to work in the house, try a signal booster.

Try using the home phone while there and not use your minutes up. When I am at home I do not use my phone because I only got it to be contacted while AWAY from my home. I save so much usage and my phone has longer battery life because of it. 🙂

Here's what the Verizon CEO thinks about your plight:

"Why in the world would you think your (cell) phone would work in your house?" he asked. "The customer has come to expect so much. They want it to work in the elevator, they want it to work in the basement."

What does this have to do with anything? Do you have any idea who Ivan Seidenberg is? I'll give you one clue, NOT the CEO of Verizon Wireless.

2 things:
1. He never said Verizon Wireless - his original post said "Verizon".
2. He IS the CEO of Verizon, which is the PARENT company to VZW (along with Vodaphone). So he trumps Dennis Strigl IMO

Isn't the no roaming fees in part due to Cingular not having the ability to roam in alot of areas other carriers could/may?

I should think there are customers willing to pay extra for the ability to use their phone in areas they would otherwise not be able to.

Of course - I guess rollover minutes are great too - and not just an indication that your on a plan that is too large.

Gotta love the spin.

I don't think that's completely accurate. My understanding of the whole 'roaming charge' situation is that the GSM carriers in the US have typically had very good relationships. Because of this, they have been fairly reasonable about what they charge to use each others' networks for roaming coverage. Because of this, even though GSM carriers don't make money or even lose money when customers roam, the cost is not so bad that they need to pass that onto the customer.

In fact, in some areas (like California), T-Mobile and Cingular actually had jointly-built and jointlu-operated networks until just recently . . . no 'spin' in that. 😁

And the current Nation plans, the only way you'll be billed 'roaming' is if you leave the US.

Man Pooky Bear, you are on a roll.

Considering usage research industry wide shows customer minute needs vary month to month I figured you would have already know that instead of taking a jab.

Second, Cingular can roam onto MOST GSM networks nationwide. I saw MOST because you like to be technical and I don't know every roaming agreement in every region of the country. For example here in TX customers can use T-Mobile, Dobson, Western Wireless, Plateau Wireless, Caprock Wireless, etc. for no extra cost. If a alternate GSM provider offers additional coverage (I am talking additional MSA or RSA coverage, not just more towers in your home market) then usually Cingular has set up a roaming agreement with said company.

I work for a smaller regional carrier - we're tiny - but we pride ourselves on having better coverage locally than the "big guys" because of course, we're local.

Genius marketing plan - but none-the-less, deceptive. One day, a Cingular customer's phone reads "Cingular Extended" - the next day, it reads "Cingular" - with a marketing campaign that leads customers to believe they're launching a ton of new towers. Friends of mine who have Cingular comment to me "It's awesome - they're really doing a lot to improve my service. They just put up a new tower near my work - see, I have 5 bars now" - they had 5 bars roaming on my network the day before, but they don't know that.

Devil's Advocate - I understand that Cingular does a very good job ...

Cingular has been putting up new towers nonstop since their launch of GSM a few years back. Nothing, not even the merge with AT&T has slowed their progress. If you search the press releases on Cingular's website in the regional section, they have news articles about how many new towers in what locations of each state they are putting up, when they are putting them up, how much they are spending on putting up the new towers, and even completion dates of when the towers are finished.

Don't try and say that Cingular is launching a campaign to fool their customers into thinking they are putting up new towers all the time, because they aren't fooling anybody. It is true that Cingular is consatantly putting up additional towers to their netw...

And don't try and make it out as thought Cingular is the only company that misrepresents their OWN coverage

Oh - so other carriers do it - so it's ok for everyone to do it... how ... admirable?

The wireless industry is just screaming for government regulation.

For those of you here who are unhappy with Cingular's service and plan on leaving to go to Verizon, T-Mobile, etc, I say go for it, and I mean this in the most unsarcastic way possible.

Even though I work for the company, I'm not necessarily the most supportive or loyal (I prefer Cricket myself). However, from what I've heard from friends and family who use Cingular, the network is pretty good. This is, of course, outside of the cheerleading for Cingular from management, and the jeering of Cingular from customers who call in.

I've dealt with several customers who call in to cancel to switch to another provider, and out of all customers I've cancelled, I'd say around 50-60% end up coming back within a month. I'm not saying this is true...

I think all of the above rants and comparisions between Cingular and Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint boil down to a central theme. Each carrier has its advantages and disadvantages, some which may outweigh one to the other and each person has to decide what matters the most to them. I spent the past 5 years with Sprint and absolutely loved it. What made me switch to Cingular was the fact that after 3 contract changes to increase my minutes I was still going over my minutes every month. Yes, for all the other Sprint lovers out there, I know I could do the Fair and Flexible plan, but my 1100 minutes would still cost an extra $5/mo under that plan and I didn't want to have additionally pay when I did go over as well. When I analyzed my bill I...
