So, i call up customer care and tell them that i'm tired of my freaking crapy motorola v551 (btw dont buy motorolas) and request they give me the unlock codes to a old at&t phone i had. The lady says she'll send in a request and they'll contact me within 5 buisness day with either a code or they'll tell me no. No response and its been over two months. Next i find out that there is a new antenna for my sisters LG c1300 and that they will send it for free. They said it will be there in about 3 buisness days and its been atleast 3 weeks. Even though this next one goes back a ways..Me and my mom send in our mail in rebates for our crappy motorolas (yes both are crap) and it has to have been atleast those 12 weeks by now considering we got the ph...

Number one - The older V551 have software issues. One way to tell your version is to see if it shows an "E" on the display for EDGE data or just 3 little shapes (to the right of your antenna strength). If it is the older one call Exchange by Mail and get it replaced (for free mind you).
Number two - You had a number and website on your mail in rebate form to check the status of your rebate. Please call that number or check their site for your rebate status.
Number three - I have NEVER heard of a different antenna for the LG 1300 (considering the antenna is not user replaceable I don't know who is sending you one). If anyone else knows what this may be please chime in.
Some of the mail offers are generated in advance and may be p...

One more thing, ATTWS NEVER gave out unlock codes. The representatives didn't even have access to them nor did anyone in the company. We were always told to refer them to the manufacturer, who won't give them either. A Cingular representative doesn't have them, and I as a Cingular Rep have submitted requests for unlock codes and received the copied response within 3 days.
...
Yes Shayby you are correct Cingular wireless does give unlock codes on their handsets if you meet qualifications. If this customer is having problems with their V551 you have to follow the warranty process. That is not Cingular treating you bad it is how it would work with any carrier. That is what the manufacturers warranty is for.
...
Yup, Cingy does, but he wants an ATTWS phone unlocked so therefore, it probably wont happen. âšī¸

naw, unlockme.co.uk's better.

your still around? đŗ I havent seen you in forever.

I still have not gotten mine for my RAZR and, as you know, there is no reason I shouldn't be given the code as I paid full retail.
...
yeah cingular did release new antennas for the c1300 and they are replacing them at all corporate stores
...
What is the difference between the old ones and the new ones?
...
Apparently none as the phones are still crap.
...
Do you have the product advisory and if so can I give you my email or fax number?

http://www.cingular.com/1300 »Texas there ya go.
It was announced long ago. It does nothing for the phone. The 1300a had a software update along with the new atenna and those worked but the 1300 with the new antenna is worthless.
You can unscrew the antenna and it will have a red circle around the metal.
...
Yeah there was an antenna update for the LG1300's (the first batch) as the original caused all sorts of mayhem. The current crop of Lg1300's have the updated (red band antennas) but the phones unfortunately still suck.
...
So let me see if I have this right. If my V551 has the funky little squares to the right of the antenna strength meter then it's an "old" model and I can get this turkey replaced for free?
...
If you are having issues go for it (as long as it is less than one year old). Cingular doesn't want a mass of V551 handsets coming in but oh well.
...
Texas... you can't be serious. The Lg 1300 antenna simply screws off.. just like a Motorola antenna. They have been sending out replacements since December. As a matter of fact.. I have a huge bag of them in the back of my store. The way you know if it is a new antenna or not, is if it has a red stripe on the screw part of the antenna.
...
Well, considering I was out of the business from October-May and the phones at that point all came with the new one...
Then, yes, I can be serious.
...
it is policy not to unlock att phones. you are on your own for that.
...
Well that's not what the nice cingular rep told me. She told me that since i was having phone troubles there was more of a likelyhood i would get the unlocks codes. BTW I dont want to replace my Motorola V551 because i do not like motorolas and anyone that has had that phone or a similar one has not liked it and everyone i know thats had any motorola has had major problems..so it is not very likely that i will ever buy one or care about getting a replacement for the one i have. I will get a good brand that i can trust such as nokia or samsung. Don't buy motorola and dont let any rep tell you to. Some jerk rep at a cingular store was trying to tell me about how they all use motorolas and how great they are, and its seems like all reps do..wel...

I am a customer, not for Cingular mind you, and I do work for them indirectly. The advise given to you has been as impartial as it can be. They did give you good advise, if you check the Motorola forum you will see many posts about software issues. eXchange By Mail will replace your V551 with one that has updated software as that seems to be the issue from what you've discribed. As a consumer of wireless products I have found Motorola to be hit or miss with thier products. If you wait out a few months after the intial release you geat a great one because the early adopters have worked out the post production kinks. Take the XBM offers, if it is an old AWS phone they will not be able to provide the unlock code as Cingular only has the u...

Well, I'm a CUSTOMER, but i haven't had similar experience. The phone I'm currently using is a Motorola V400. I did have to have it replaced by XBM for dropped calls. After that, I haven't had a problem since. My previous phone was a Motorola V120 (I think???). With that one, I had no problems at all, except for the paint coming off on some of the buttons. My mom just got a V551 and loves it. The only problem I've had is trying to connect it via Bluetooth to my computer. I've only tried twice, and it connects, just takes awhile. I think it's mostly on my part since I've never connected anything via BT besides my keyboard and mouse. Maybe you got a bad phone. Maybe it's been abused. Maybe you and everyone you know doesn't know ho...

I have a motorola through T-Mobile and I love it. It's the V330 which is the same as the V551 except is has T-Mobile branding instead of Cingular branding and a different faceplate. I am sorry you are having so many problems with your phone. Other than the software problems that have already been discussed, have there been any other issues with the phone?

I'm glad that the people who work for the company want me to buy a product their selling. I mean, i know that phones have problems but motorolas are the worst (ive worked with about every kind of phone) Well whatever i'm glad that people that work for cingular have such a great loyalty. Trust me i like cingular, it's a great company, but nothing can be perfect. Just trying to

there is a nokia flip coming out by september, no bluetooth though. you probably got an orange rep on the phone who doesnt know about the att never unlocked phones policy that got carried over after the merger. motorolas in general are good phones, personally I dont like their user interface and alot of their phones their send and end buttons on are on the wrong side on alot of their phones đ but thats just my own personal preference.
...
Mine's on the wrong side and I like it. Well, not sure if it's on the wrong side. Whichever it is, I like where it is. I have my talk on the right side. The V551 has the talk on the left. Very weird when trying to navigate after a year on mine.

Yet another customer who has had their options explained to them, and told specifically that they have these options and can choose to take any of them, but yet they don't want to listen because we didn't tell them cingular would give them a DIFFERENT replacement phone for free.....and if a rep is using something, and is also willing to sell it to you, don't you think that means something? I know that even if I did work for a company, if I had had problems with a specific phone, I would try to steer customers away from that particular phone. But oh well...live and learn(?)...and then ask for more free stuff.
...
you are so freakin anal about everything, you are one of those types that always has to gripe about something, if you could do a better job why don't you go make a new phone đŋ
...
Quit your crying, pimpdoutplayer1, I know that you probably aren't happy with your phone, but its probably b/c you've done something to it. Yes the 551 did have software issues, but speaking from experience, it takes a whole 8 minutes to call the warranty hotline and they overnight your a NEW phone at no cost to you. They do have good service, its just too bad your are too ignorant to call and get an exchange. đĸ and for the LGc1300 they did send out replacement ant. and also if you have a past due balance, you aren't eligible for upgrade until your contract is up. If you pay the past due, then you will be eligible 21 months into your contract FYI

The honest truth on Motorola is that the phones work great but from time to time they have glitches. They are always good with reception but you need to reboot them more often than any other phone. Motorola really needs to work on their software and that has been the same for years. Everyone I know has bought motorola's from the v400 to the v551.
Motorola is also good about having bad batches of phones like the 2 months straight that every other v551 wouldn't charge. However, since they brought out the new version that shows the E by your signal for internet, like Texaswireless mentioned, the problems have gone away and that was around march I believe. We all get bad phones it happens. Some people like to warranty things and try to resolv...

Couldn't agree more with the Moto reboot issues... In fact, that power-down, take out batt & sim, replace, turn back on, solves quite a few issues that are often confused as maybe software glitches, etc...
