I am an Orange rep in Schaumburg call center for cingular wireless. There is only a few of us left and they are not hiring anymore. I keep hearing from sources that on Firday cingular will announce that customer service reps in Scahumburg are surplussed. My supervisor in a meeting said that we should all have a back up plan. Most of the managers are moving to new positions in the company. Most managers either or going down with the ship or have already jumped ship. Has anybody heard anything? Does anybody have any information? Dang

I haven't heard this. Aren't you union? That should offer you some protection.

I will get a severance package but no union can guarantee your job. Plus with all of the non union and outsourced centers due to the merger. Why keep me I make more than two outsourced reps put together.

Well if you are a good employee then I don't see why they wouldn't offer you something at Springfield or Rantoul or somewhere else. That's the only problem - we haven't been hiring ANYONE since the merger where I am at. I feel like this company isn't hiring anyone ever again. But don't worry, come 2006 when Cingular no longer has to pay AT&T severance packages they will cut the chain loose on a lot of blue employees. I am counting on it.

They don't care who they let go. They are trying to get the most amount of calls answered at the cheapest price. Cingular wants to start walking under performing reps right out the door as soon as possible. The union makes the process to long for Cingular's taste they have always felt that way.

Hence our service levels are now going down the toilet because they keep undertiming excessive amounts of people. We go into queue LONG & HARD and they don't care. You are totally right; the most amount of calls for the least amount of money. I won't be surprised if we are soon to the way orange always had it; in queue the entire time we are open and accepting calls.

The truth is we are all just head count. the name of the game is Availability and Adherence. they do not care how great your QA is if you can not keep your numbers up and that costs them money.

How long have you been with the company? Sounds like you know what the "real orange" is like. Those of us former blue employees took this merger much harder than I think orange reps did - orange always did things the same old way; everything revolving around the dollar. You would have loved working for blue; we had incentives to come to work; bonuses, time off for good performance, parties for good QA, happy co-workers, etc. We had it nice. Things have changed so much. You can delete all those added incentives I typed above on orange.

So, who's up for actively destablizing the new Cingular? First up, where's Stan and Kathy's houses? And where's the nearest grassy knoll?

I have been with Cingular for almost 2 years. I have seen so many changes in less than two years. When I started reps had a lot of power we could approve early upgrades we could do courtesy rerates. Scahaumburg is the oldest call center in North Central region. Some of the reps in Schaumburg have been there ten years or more. Some managers 20 years or more one manager in force 30 years. Everybody who worked for Cell one former Cingular says there were incentive programs yearly bonuses parties and higher starting pay and any phone you wanted for 15-20 dollars. Then SBC comes into the picture and they believe in cutting the extras. They believe that your reward is that paycheck you get every couple of Weeks. They started to make cuts then Stan...

i'm a rep in schaumburg as well... and the union doesn't do a thing for us... we are just now getting our retro checks... and he is right, all of a sudden managers are just leaving, people who weren't leaving before felt they are ready to now, ya know, why all of a sudden, its weird...

cingular is going down big time, and i hope im not here when they do... no offense to the blue side, but i wish we didn't buy them out... we were doing better before the merger... servc i think was much better, even w/ my emp line i get more dropped calls, i feel like the custs sometimes... yeah we are gonna lose our jobs here in schaumburg, it sucks, but this is life i guess... i leave for maternity soon, and plan not to come back, so good luck to everyone...

I truly hope that this does not come to pass. While you union guys cost more than outsourced weenies like me I have tremendous respect for the "real orange" reps. The call volume you have to take and the hard work I've had you guys do for me (Blue people forgetting to pay the bill) I never got the courteous friendly sounding reps xfering between blue depts. It will be a shame, a travesty, and a bunch of other really bad things if we loose high tenured reps as the knowledge lost and the misinfo from new reps then the attrition rate increasing will only end up costing Cingular more. How is it that "smart" buisness people forget the value of experience at a specific skill set?

Cingular is all about trying different things then reverting back to what makes sense. You think protocol is strict now it was worse when it first was introduced. The higher ups losened it before the merger you guys are lucky. I am glad us Orange reps are appreciated by somebody we have to know so much and do so much. I even do rerates for the outsourced centers.
