First of all what phone are you talking about? Second of all I don't think there IS a phone on att/cingular that only uses 1900 Mhz (reps correct me if I am wrong) unless you are buying a unlocked phone from eBay or something like that...BTW this is my OPINION. Someone with REAL info will correct me if I am wrong. 😉

Well to be honest I don't know if the fact that it only works on 1900 Mhz only would keep you from having reception issues. I think it might. Let me guess this was a T-Mobile phone before it was unlocked right??

simply put there may be towers that are only supporting 850 and vise versa. most aws registered towers had 850 as an overlay added to the same towers. im ASSUMING the cing network was built the same. when i was with rogers in canada, i had a 1900 i had so so coverage. after i got 850 ive been good pretty much everywhere. if you have a cheep early gsm phone u can test.

The answer is yes, you will see a difference in the signal strength in areas that are covered by the 850 band.

From reading further in the thread, I noticed that you are looking at the 6260. There is a version of that phone out that has the 850 band instead of the 900 band. If you are looking to use this phone on the Cingular network, I would advise finding a version with 850 to obtain optimal performance.

I did not check to see where it is available, I simply saw it on phonescoop that there is a version with the 850 band on the 6260. Your best bet would probably be from Nokia directly.
