Cingular has had the same 6 markets since they bought them from ATT. ANy chance of new markets rolling out soon. They are starting to come out with great new 3G phones and I am ready to take advantage of the technology that is available, but I am not so happy with Cingular's progress. Anyone know any future plans or have any new articles on the subject?

The current 3G phones being released won't be compatible with Cingular's 3G Network and arent compatible with their 6 current markets.

This is basically conjecture, but as far as I am aware, cingular UMTS is supposed to roll out third or fourth quarter this year, assuming it stays on schedule. no word yet on how/if they will be supporting the AT&T Wireless UMTS markets.

I asked that question yesterday. We got some info saying Cingular completed it's first test call since the merger, on the Cingular network. The reply I got back said they will look into finding out the first test markets.

I live in the Washington/Baltimore region. Well like 3 hours south of Washington but I am stil considered to be part of that region. If I got a phone with UMTS/900/1800/1900 do you think it would work well of should I just stick with an 850/1800/1900 phone?

for one you will not find a UMTS phone that is 900/1800/1900, the only UMTS phones that will work in the USA or 1900 GSM and 1900 UMTS only, there are no dual band GSM single band UMTS phones availible in the US

yes, but you will have ATTWS branding all over it and i dont know who would unlock the devices, but yes it would work....mind you, you are limiting yourself to 1900mhz GSM only and a 1900mhz UMTS signal, which since you are 3 hours outside of the actual area there is no telling if you will be able to grab that signal

Thats not completely true. The Motorola A845 is a tri-band GSM (850/1800/1900) and single band UMTS (1900)

Temp,

I beg to differ with you on that one. I carry a V635 on my employee line, and an unlock a630 on my personal line(both Cingular). I guess I am one of the few who hasn't had a "buggy" Moto. Naturally I stay way from the smartphones they, will you already know are a piece.

I have also been a Nokia man, however their lack of quality packed handsets comes far and few between. I did carry the 6530b for a month and it was by far the best Nokia I have ever had. I am intrested in the 6630, but why pay $350 for a phone and you can't utilize the UTMS features as it carried the Euro 2100mhz 3G band. I am fortunate to be in Dallas, one of the 6 markets that supports 3G.
