BB Torch or iPhone 4

OK, my contract is up and I am looking into new phones. I love both blackberry's and iPhones so I am torn. The Torch 9800 seems like a great combination of the 2. Does anyone else here have a Torch and how do you like it? How about compared to the iPhone?

I just had the same choice. And I went with the iPhone 4 because if I get tired of it, it'll fetch more on Ebay than the Blackberry.
Food for thought. 😲

I totally agree with you. iPhones will always hold their value better than most phones, plus I think I would miss the apps, Blackberry can't even compare to the iPhone. I have also heard rumors of some problems with the Torch which scares me.

I don't own either, but I would certainly go with the iphone 4. No matter how cool a phone is, eventually the novelty of it's interface goes away. With the iphone you have thousands (or is it hundreds of thousands?) of apps to choose from to keep the honeymoon going. My previous phone was a bold 9700 and I wasn't impressed with the bb app world at all. Not to mention the phone seems a little under powered for the price. With the iphone you get the retina display, 1ghz processor, hd video recording and a 5mp camera. Resale value is another excellent point that was made, you will always get top dollar for an iphone as long as it's not damaged.

Ok one more choice, I went to the AT&T store to look at the iPhone and Torch again and the salesman steered me away from those phones and steered me towards a Samsung Captivate. He said that is the best phone that AT&T sells in his opinion. I checked consumer reports and they list the Captivate as their number one recomended smart phone. Hmmmmmm, now what do you all think? Captivate or iPhone??

I have to agree with 130 here. I've owned the Captivate for about two and a half months now and I still enjoy it as much now as the day I pulled it out of the box. Iphone might have the retina display, but the Captivate is no slouch with 800x480. The superAMOLED display is amazing and the touch screen is every bit as accurate and sensitive as the iphone. My biggest complaint about the Captivate is the speaker which could be louder. Overall I am very happy with the phone. In my opinion, it should be between the iphone 4 and the Captivate.

I have the Verizon version of the Galaxy S/Captivate and it's a great phone. Samsung really did a good job on these.

Now, if AT&T could just do something about their towers so the phones would work...

That's actually a good point you might want to take into consideration mikemam. One thing I have noticed about the Captivate is that it seems to be calibrated for higher speed connections if that makes sense. For example, I have a 3g microcell and wifi in my basement. When I'm in my house the phone works great. The town I live in doesn't have 3g and just has all around spotty service. There has been several times when I was getting 2-4 bars of EDGE and my apps wouldn't work. I was getting a consistent 3 bars of EDGE once and my facebook app wouldn't update. I have used the phone in places that have 3g service and I never had a problem there whether it's 1 or 5 bars. Just something to take into consideration.

Thanks again for all your comments. Now I need to decide between the Captivate and the iPhone, the Torch is now out. When I decide I will let you all know and what my opinions are of the new phone.

OK, just an update for anyone who cares. After a lot of deliberation I decided to go with an iPhone 4, I just couldn't get myself to try an Android. But instead of signing a contract I bought the iPhone 4 off of Craigslist.

So far I love it. It is so much better than the 3GS iPhone. The retina screen is so clear. Just texting alone you can see the difference. As of now I am very happy with it. If I run into any problems I will let everyone know or if they actually come out with the iPhone 5 I may have to switch. 🤣

I think the captivates screen clarity is amazing, I can only imagine how good the retina display looks. I planned on getting my wife an iphone 4 when they first came out, still didn't get one and I'm almost tempted to just wait for the iphone 5. Of course I imagine I could just sell the iphone 4 when it comes out and make most of my money back.
