Wi-Fi Calling

Just a question for ATT... If we get a Blackberry curve (8320 or newer) that has WiFi capabilities. Can we use the WiFi for making and receiving phone calls when we are using a WiFi network? If yes what about other things like text messages etc. ATT can not tell me if they allow it or if its possible. I know that T-Mobile advertises it (online).

TMO uses UMA to do this. They use it to help out their lack of coverage. And I'm pretty sure the handset has to support it, which none of ATT phones do.

I'm sure you could use something like Google Voice or Skype to make calls over Wi-Fi.

What if it is an unlocked phone. One that works with TMobile too. Will that allow this feature to be used or is it a carrier availability.

No. Your going to need a TMO branded phone. I'm pretty sure there's software on the device that helps with the cellular-Wi-Fi hand off.
