Depends on the phone. A store might have a better deal on one phone, but online may have a betetr deal on another phone. Do some comparisons then decide...

Ebay is a great place to buy phones at less than the "subsidized" price for the better phones.

I have been tracking the Sony s710a and they are seeling for less then the 2 year contract $399 plus tax Cingular price.

I thought the subsidies were actually a good deal until I was told by someone to check out Ebay.

The only drawback for some is there is no PHONE support from Cingular...But that pretty much goes without saying.

Online from Cingular website or Authorized dealer.. Yes. Cingular would support that

But Kingfrog was talking about eBay. Cingular will not support those phones because the people on eBay are not authorized dealers 🙂

YEah EBAY is where the lower priced new and used phones are. Im looking to buy a Sony s710a and don't want to sign a 2 year contract.

I enjoy Cingular so far and was with ATTWS for more then 8 years, the last 4 years month to month on a national no roam plan.

The switch to Cingular was a matter of buying a phone and signing up for a plan. Especially in the first year with a carrier I would rather go month to month. 30 days try out is not enough.

After a few years with all my travels I'd feel more comfortable siging a contract IF I was actually getting something for doing so.

$399 for a s710a is no incentive at this time

If it is a phone we carry/support, then XBM will cover it.

No because it will be considered COAM. Its like getting a used phone from a friend and starting service with it.

XBM may let 1 or 2 slide but policy states that its not covered. At least thats what CC is told. I'm not warrenty rep so I guess I could be wrong. But I highly doubt it.

I found a used Nokia 5165 on eBay for $15, I know thats a bit high for you but there's no upgrade fee and its less than $18, so it should fit within your budget.

There are a number of good phones online if you're eligible for the standard upgrade. I'd start there. Then I'd work my up to the stores.
