Where all the Android phones?

Anybody have any news on this? AT&T had stated that they would have 5 by first half of 2010 and so far all they have released is the Moto Backflip. I know that the Dell Aero is another, but that won't be until late June/July which leaves HTC...

ATT is the last national carrier to launch Android, that's what the hurry is, they're already last.

I left cause I gave up on waiting, likely there's others. I read in the Motorola Droid reviews that there are quite a few people leaving the Iphone for the Droid, and like it better.

Everything ATT does takes too long. Look at how fast it was between when we first heard about the HTC Incredible, and when it launched on Vzn. I got sick of waiting for Andeoid on ATT. Vzn doesn't fck up Android like ATT. I *completly* lost trust with ATT because of how they neutered their first supposed Android handset.

ATT is for the iPHONE! If you don't love the iPHONE and all it has to offer, you don't belong with ATT!

Yep AT&T is just a whore for the iphone. I thought everyone knew that. Let Verizon continue to get all the good phones.

I'd wager there's pretty good odds that BigBlue is trying to snare as many iPhoners as they can to try and prevent loss of exclusive rights to the iPhone.

Launching a "good" Android phone would cannibalize iPhone sales in the near term. That could be especially bad if they have some sort of mandate with Apple to sell so many million iPhones per quarter/year in order to keep exclusivity rights.

Apple pulled the minimum sales volume game with Vodafone and several Russian carriers, if I remember right. Wasn't it the HTC HD2 that Vodafone finally had to stop carrying because too many people were walking out with one of those instead of an iPhone, leaving them in the bad graces of Cupertino?

That makes complete sense. What pisses me off is that earlier this year, at&t announced they would carry 5 android devices by the end of june.

As an at&t reseller, I would LOVE to have something to sell head to head with the iPhone. The finanicals of our iPhone sales leave a lot to be desired. I'd much rather sell a samsung galaxy S that would more than likely generate 3-4 times the profit of an iPhone sale. Its all a matter of time I guess.

Yes, AT&T said 5 by the end of the year. At last count, that was a bit over 7 months to go.

Or maybe they knew they were losing exclusivity at WWDC next month, so all the Androids will drop the week after the announcement?

My rep today said the HTC Aria will be announced on the 7th and has a mid/late June release date. No specs have been mentioned other than it will be 2.1, Sense and have a slide keyboard.

You still have the Dell phone thats "suppose" to be released soon and hopefully the Xperia. Motorola is suppose to have another Android for AT&T soon as well, but he wasn't able to tell me anything on that. From what I was told HTC has 2 phones total coming out within the next month or so, I just hope its true because I'm tired of waiting and the Backflip just doesn't cut it.

That's kinda neat of a name, cause there is a very beautiful hotel in Las Vegas called Aria.

Anyway, I left ATT cause I wasn't willing to wait, and wait, and wait for real Android to come, so I got the Moto Droid from Vzn.

Too late, we were up for upgrades this month and have decided to give the EVO 4G a try. I'm a little hesitant to go with Sprint, but willing to give them a shot especially when it will be about 40.00 less than what we pay now with AT&T and we have 30 days to see how it all works out. 🙂

I saw your posts earlier about that...unfortuanetly for me Verizon can be very costly and our house was a dead spot for their service, so we will give Sprint a shot and see what happens. I just get tired of seeing of high end Android phone that gets announced going to some other carrier. I have had the Iphone and think its a great phone, but it doesn't make much sense to me for a carrier to pretty much have just one nice phone, not to mention that when you really look at the specs of the Iphone 4, what does it offer that other phones don't have or are even better.
I'm sure that will start an argument on here, and that's not my intent, but I believe that companies should have competetion and selection and AT&T isn't doing their part ☹️

at&t is just bending to the whims of apple. They want to keep exclusivity on the iphone for as long as possible and get as many people into iphone contracts as possible. I'm sure once they lose exclusivity on the iPhone you will see similar high end android devices. As for those who leave at&t to get an android device, they are few and far between for now compared to people leaving other carriers to get an iPhone.

i can understand people wanting android phones, but Android phones are in 4th place when it come to marketshare in the USA. RIM(blackberry) is 1st, Iphone 2nd, windows 3rd, and symbian etc...5th

When there is no limit to what droid gets, there is no limit to what droid dose...that includes downloading apps which opens back doors to your phone allowing someone to make a copy of all the info allowing them to become a digital version of you. Downloading an app whith a virus attached...etc...dont get me wrong I think android is cool, I have used some, but I will always own a blackberry device or Iphone,

I have a nexus one now. Its a nice phone and all does some things well, does some things not so well. Outside of the navigation and the voice to text feature. I like the iphone. I'm holding out for froyo to come out before I make a switch back to iphone. I hate the email on the nexus one, not being able to edit emails when you reply. Cut and past is there but not implemented very well. I'm a sports nut and the iphone has better apps for sports. Dont get me wrong. If I had to stay with the nexus one I would be ok with it. But after having both if you layed them side by side Iphone 4 and Nexus One. I would take the Iphone 4. But is would be close.

The way Android is exploding with the Droid X & Droid 2 due out next month, and Evo 4G, and a lot of other high-end handsets, it's only a matter of time, not much time, before Android is #2

A lot of BB users are ditching their BB's for Android.
