New To Cingular
I have finally decided to get Cingular over TMobile now that Cingular is available in my area. I just now need help in deciding which phone to get. Bluetooth is not a feature that I have to have. I want excellent sound quality when making calls. I would like to have a phone that gets good signal strength and it must have loud ringers. Anything else that the phone has would be icing on the cake. With all of that being said, which phone is the best out of the following three(Sony z500, Motorola v220, or the Motorola v551). Thanks in advance for your help.

Of the three, i would go Moto v551... If you just want a good phone, and dont care bout any extras: go Nokia 6010! Thats the best-cheapest phone there is!

I agree. From my experience Motorola phones seems to have worse reception that Nokia's and break more often 😡 But if you want a Motorola, go with the V551. Customers I've spoken with seem to like it, as opposed to the V220.

i've had the V551 for several months now and love it, actually dropped it a couple of times and it still works perfectly

Yeah people seem to like that model. Its the V220 and the old digital V60's that seem to have the most trouble. At least that I've noticed.

the 551 gets great signal around here. i guess it depends on the area?

I live in Southeastern Virginia(old Suncom area that Cingular just recently acquired). Anyone know how the reception is here?

I would go with the 551 or z500. If you are going to pay the price for the 551, I would get the Nokia 6230. It isn't a flip, but it is awesome. I really thought that I would miss the flip, but I don't at all. I actually like this better.

I have the Nokia 6230 as well and it is simply amazing. It has the most features for the money of any of the phones on the market right now. And I agree with tadams, I don't miss the flip part at all.
And the best part, I heard that the price just dropped on it. Don't know how true it is as I have not been into a store to find out.
But the last I saw it in a store, it was $129.99, which is an absolute steal for all of its features.

I know im gonna get nagged for saying this but go with the LG L1400. Its a bit more than the v551 and lacks bluetooth and speakerphone but it has dual color displays(u can take pics with outer display) and in norther NJ i get 4 or 5 bars out of 5(mostly get 5 sometimes drops to 4 or 3 inwhich 3 is lease likely) the ringers are loud especially the Ring 1 which sounds like the ringer of a old fashion phone. The displays are vibrant and beautiful in color. I find myself at night turning off backlight thats how strong the backlight is.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If that phone works for you, that is great. Personally, it doesn't have near enough features for me. But, then again, I am the type of person that MUST have the newest and best of everything.
