Unlocking Code from AT&T
I believe that after having service for 90 days, att will give you the unlock code for your phone. Is this true with the iphone as well? If no, why is the iphone excluded? Thanks in advance.
I agree. This forum has gone to ****, and that is why I don't post as much as i use too. Plus, I am busy, to boot.
Knowing at&t, I am sure there is an additional time restriction with iphone unlocking outside the "normal" 90 day window. I could be wrong. Doesn't hurt to have tech support fill out the request.
Will
As Will suggested it doesn't hurt to ask but I don't think the phone can be unlocked using traditional methods.

Yes and No.
No, generally because Apple and at&t want to make it as difficult as possible for you to use your own property in the way you see fit. Enjoy the DRM and inability to extend the life and functionality of your device.
Yes, because it has been done.

Good luck finding an at&t rep or owner that is competent enough to know the method and actually be able do it if you go that route.
B U T, I think it would be fair that after fulfilling your two year contract they should give you the unlock code. Well that is not going to happen because i think the logic behind not giving the unlock code is that even after a couple of years you buy a new phone and give your old one to a friend or family member, they have to go to at&t to activate it. Thats like double dipping on at&t's path. Anyway, this is the norm in this world of cooperate greed.
Now what is the link to the Nexus One UNLOCKED phone site???
We are all incompetant on his planet, except the king.

You don't learn very fast do you?
As for competence, my point was that is indeed possible to unlock the Iphone.
I would think that someone whose job involves selling and providing support for the Iphone would know at least this, including the caveats for at&t.
Point taken though.
