Ok I was just wondering how the testing was going?? I know that some one had said that it was being tested in a few markets. I have been seeing that Verizon is trying their PTT again. any input would be great...

I heard rumors back in November about Cingular getting PTT and asked about it not that long ago but haven't really gotten any information. I hope we do get it though. It will take away some of the competitive advantage that the other companies offering PTT have.

Can I ask a question without seeming stupid? What is the big friggin' deal about Push To Talk? I mean honestly, is it that hard to hold a conversation as a regular phone call. I mean this may just be my opinion, but I would just as soon get a phone with speaker phone on it and put my phone call on speakerphone then I would do the two way thing.. I mean more buttons to hit all the time and all, I just don't see the benefit for anyone other than people in construction or technical work, but even then I still don't see this huge advantage. I honestly see a bigger advantage with a bluetooth headset with a bluetooth phone because your phone can be in your pocket and then headset is on your ear... But then again, maybe it's just me. 😕

Just another gadget on our phone to use Jackie. I prefer the Bluetooth method as well. Well already have cameras, mp3 players, video recorders, fm radios and others as well. So in my opinion its just another gadget.

I don't really like it either but I know that here is a market for PTT. A lot of people do feel it is annoying but as long as it is in demand it would be smart to offer PTT. Even just test it in one or two markets to determine wether it is actually worth launching nationwide.

I completely agree with you, Jackie. With the development of bluetooth headsets and speakerphone on cell phones, I really don't see the need for PTT. Other than something else to play with.

I've used Verizon's new PTT service between two separate counties and guess what? It's not terrible. It's a viable alternative to Nextel. Despite what you would say. But why on earth would you bash Cingular's PTT service before it arrives? We want you to explain that to us.

i tried verizon's new push to talk too and it was terrible. the set-up latency was around 2-3 seconds and during the call it was about pretty good but it went from not much latency to 2 seconds. too much of a delay. i am also seeing that when a few brokerage firms do channel checks and demo checks they say pretty much the same or similiar as i do.

And guess what? I was in a Verizon store getting my phone replaced on Friday and tried out the new Kyocera 444 PTT handset and have a great, latency free conversation...

those speeds were in closed. meaning that it was in a closed area, and that it wasnt nationwide on the network meaning speeds should get dilouted as more people use it. i belive ev-do rev o was tested at over 3mb/s and no one is even hitting that. verizon is advertising 300-600kb/s.

What do you think they did, created a whole entire HSDPA network to use one phone to make one phone call? Cingular has HSDPA phones and network cards throughout the entire city and data speeds STILL hit those highs. I don't doubt that the speed will drop somewhat after it is released nationally, but don't make it out like the speeds are going to be so much slower that they'll be sitting still.

coverage wont be consistant nationwide with any carrier, let alone with nextel. nextel doesnt focus a lot of rural areas and places like that. they focus on where a lot of people are. with 3k cell sites per year plus they will start to fill in those gaps.

morning.. if you have 1 bar or barely one bar, but it doesnt say no service, it will still work the same as it did if you had full service. example, i was in nyc a few months ago, and in this one area i only got from 0-1 bar and when i was Dcing, i had no latency. (even with 0-1 bars) as long as it doesnt say no service, or on the TX status atleaast -100 to maybe -105 or -110 you will be able to DC.

that is quite interesting. you dont need 3 bars to work direct connect since it uses about 1/25th of the cell site/spectrum/freq etc.. i know you didnt experience that. you shouldnt be making things up its not right.

The thing is, I'm not making a single thing up, and I can have my cousin and 2 of my friends who also had Nextel sign up on Phone Scoop and tell you the same thing for they experienced the same exact problems, among alot of other problems with Nextel, which is why we all payed our early termination fees and got the hell out of Nextel in search of something that would service our needs alot better. My cousin went to Verizon, my one friend and I went to Cingular, and my other friend went to T-Mobile. I have yet to hear a complaint from one of them, as they have yet to hear a complaint from me.

it is very consistent, my friend. by the way i had 0-1 bar here in mass for a few seconds and i dced my friend and it was fine. by the way when you direct connect someone usually and most often the "bar"s go up becuase when your connected to a tower you will be more prority which means YOUR SINGAL will get better. usually if you have 0-2 bars when your not in direct connect and after your in dc calling you should be atleast 3-4 bars, becuase of from being idle to becoming active on that cell site.

Couldn't be farther from the truth. We started carrying Nextel at CompUSA around 2000 and we quit for a nice stretch because in our market the delay was bad enough that we kept getting them returned. It wasn't 1 second, and I'm not saying it was 6 either. I just now it was latency, and they were returned. We did pick them back up when the latency was corrected in our area about a year-and-a-half later.

Personally, PTT itself is a stepping stone... The true benefits will arise once the Push-To-Data begins... PTV and such... Nextel has PTT like Microsoft has OS's no doubt about that... Wether cingy's solution will be the linux of PTT who knows... all I know is the plans cingular has for Push tech is worth it alone... Cingular will not release Push technology strictly for the voice end... as some carriers have based their souls on...

Personally I think PTT is the most annoying cell phone gimmick ever devised. I refuse to even think about Nextel just because of that damned "chirp" that is so loud and obnoxious. It's bad enough I have to hear one side of the conversation while I'm tryin to have a quiet dinner with my gf, I don't want to hear the entire thing punctuated by an obnoxious bleep.

ok ok ok... i worked for Nextel now with cingular. Nextel's Two Way is awesome. but it sucks also.. not always working, and i had a i830 and a i730. Trust me, Nextel is never going to get their $h!# done! From my district man. which will remain unknown. CHICAGO WEST! says.
