My thoughts on the iphone...

larue26

Almost everything on the iphone is contingent on data being available. When you have no service, you lose the ability to have a phone that is functional. Most apps need data as well, therefore when data is not present, you have no phone. My biggest problem with the iphone, lies in it's inability to be customized. I am used to cellphones that are user-defined. Moreover the notion that I can only use Bluetooth for stereo sound or a Bluetooth headset is ridiculous. My cellphone should be an extension of me. Also I have always loved the fact that I could add any info I wanted to my phone. Apple seems to believe that by having an iphone means I have to buy there apps and music. I think that is bullshit. Lastly the biggest problem is that the cam...

Easier said than done! I am still under contract. Oops, your forgot I have an iphone and a contract. Also "PACWEST" you should do a couple phone reviews before you make comments. Rookie. Plus it seems like you are an at&t employee from the looks of your forum comments. My post was meant for real at&t customers, not employees. Remember to check yo self before you wreck yo self, because ..... is bad for yo health. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree if you dont like it so much find away to get out of the contract, sell the iPhone, get another phone or deal with it until the contract is up.

No, you do not have to buy their apps and music. You're free to load any number of songs or video that you deem necessary. And if you don't like their apps, jailbreak it and play on Cydia.

You may write phone reviews, but you don't read them before you buy a phone? These complaints are well documented in the thousands of reviews people have done on the iPhone. The thing has been out since 2007, do you think you're just discovering these things?

No, I wouldn't. If I "needed" the messaging, I would have added it. Don't think for a moment that you're doing anyone any favors by sucking their voice minutes trying to pitch them services they may or may not need. There's nothing altruistic about trying to earn a commission. Your job, sure. For the benefit of the customer, probably not.

Sell out!

What are you, 15 years old?

Ah, I get it. I'm supposed to either hate AT&T or work there and come to the forums and extol the virtues of the network. It doesn't work that way.

I don't hate AT&T and I don't work for them. I don't hate any carrier (although Verizon is down a couple notches these days) and I deal with four of them nearly every week.

maybe jail break your phone?
i have my customized to the way i want it. i have changed font to what i want, the theme that i want, can change it at any time as well. theres even an app that you can change the volume rocker to open up an app or any control that you want instead of changing the volume up or down, you can then switch songs, open the camera, all depends on what you set it to.

That hardly "customized". It still looks just about like any iPhone any of the other bazillion iPhone users have. Apple needs to follow in the Android footsteps a bit for real customization.

i guess completely different icons that i like a lot better than the regular ones, changing the way my text messages look, locking my pictures without paying for a program to do it, changing the font on every program into what i want, changing the dial keypad to a better looking, instead of slide to unlock, i have tap to unlock so i dont have to slide across now. but none of this is custom, its stock right? ๐Ÿคจ

it still has the "this is the giant grid of icons" correct? It still has the black background behind the icons, correct? (I have yet to see a jailbroken phone run well where it doesn't have this)

You are talking about these tiny little features, that you can do as a default on most other advanced platforms (or at least download an app for) Yes, it's cool you can do that on an Iphone, it's not cool that you can do that on a phone because even some BREW phones allow quite a few of those features.

I have an android. I haven't "rooted" it yet (this isn't the same thing as jailbreaking) but I can do all of that stuff with either a free app from the app store, or just by messing through the settings myself.

I can also: Use my phone as ...

I really like RIM too, my previous phone was the Tour.

I got the droid because I'm a huge fan of google (I use it for everything) and the screen is MUCH nicer for browsing (and the browser is significantly better atm, at least until blackberry released a webkit browser)

BB is more customizable than an iPhone, no questions about that, but it's still a business phone (which I think is a great thing) instead of a media device.

Changing font and a dial pad is customized, but not all that different. When you can put widgets on the home screen(s) for apps that you frequently use then I'll be fine with calling the iPhone, jail broken or not, customizable. Just my opinion tho and when it comes down to it, who am I to say whether or not anybody likes their iPhone. IMO android is a much nicer OS for a phone and will eventually catch up to the iPhone as far as the number of apps and app quality.

You can put whatever you want on the home screen, you just can't delete Apple's stock applications. The best you can do is banish them to some backpage.

I don't consider font changing "customizing" no more than arranging icons is some how customizing. Considering that nearly every phone up until the iPhone pretty much looked the same as every other one (especially Verizon's OS), now it's suddenly a problem that you can't "customize" it?

Android is being touted as a panacea, and it's far from it. I remain unconvinced of its "open source" goodness, and I don't think it matters anyway. The average consumer has no idea what open source means, and the concept only applies to the OS and SDK, not the applications.

While the Java en...

First of all, thank you to all of the people who really understand my thoughts. I love the iphone but I really think they could do more for the consumer. It is apparent that all smartphone companies are worried more about making money rather than making a quality product. I would like to see a iphone/android hybrid with somewhat Nokia customization, and Sony Ericsson camera software (w/dedicated camera button). Yes, I would love to unlock my iphone but I am really not one to void my contract. Apple has really slipped on simple things that a Nokia 6682 had. For example, when browsing pictures on the iphone you cannot access info about each picture (Nokia 6682 could do that). As far as at&t goes, please stop the advertisements w/Luke Wil...

What info do you want to see in the photo? The name? The EXIF data? I appreciate that you want to see that data, but why? Isn't the name of the file holding the photo irrelevant when you can *see the photo*?

Categorizing them is a valid criticism, but then you can do that, you just need to do it through iTunes. I know that doesn't cut your mustard, but that's Apple's design. I get you don't like it. I suspect quite a number don't either, but I think the majority has little problem with it.

What other things did Apple "slip" upon?

An iPhone/Android hybrid? Why?
