Question for AT&T reps

I just upgraded to the iphone 3gs about 2 months ago. Well, I'm not getting very good service in my new house so I would like to cancel service.

I understand that since I just signed a new 2 year agreement, I will have to pay a $175 early termination. My question is, will any other fee apply? I asked my friend who worked for an indirect agent for AT&T and he said its possible I could have signed a contract for the data package as well which would have a fee to cancel. He was not 100% certain because he wasn't able to sell the iphone since he was indirect.

Any information is greatly appreciated. 🙂

There shouldn't be a secondary contract on the iphone outside of the termination fee. You may want to sell your 3gs on your own to either a. get a phone that has better service on at&t like a blackberry or nokia e71x or b. subsidize the cost of terminating your contract. Contrary to popular opinion, there are better phones for reception than the iphone.

Thank you for your response Sigma. To be honest, poor reception is not the only reason I'd like to switch to Verizon. I have had AT&T for a long time now and I really don't have anything negative to say about them. I haven't had any reception issues until I moved. But.. most of the people I talk to have Verizon so I'm actually going to save money on my bill. Also, I really love the Motorola droid and like to switch to it.

Anyway, I do plan on selling my iphone on eBay, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't I would not incur another fee other than $175.

Thanks again!

You will have to pay for a full months worth of service even if you shut your service off in the middle of the bill cycle. So what i suggest is to end the contract with us on the last day of your bill cycle

Also, if you got your handset from a dealer, there may be an additional penalty assessed by the dealer for canceling before a certain period.
