Cingular towers and technology

Does anyone have any advice for me on this? I just switched to Cingular GSM service in Northwest Indiana, and while coverage is generally pretty good, it is spotty/weak at my house, and my phone keeps switching between a Cingular tower and a T-Mobile tower (Cingular to Cingular Extend). Is there any software or "push" that can be sent to the phone or a way to possibly boost the signal? The signal gets up to five bars only two to three blocks from my house. Thanks for any suggestions.

In a situation where you are on the fringe of a tower's coverage, you can get "over the top" by using a high-gain antenna to boost your cell phone signal, both incoming and outgoing. These are NOT cheap sticker antennas or anything like that. They are designed especially for cell phone frequencies and actually supply "gain" to the signal. Visit my web site (www.cell-consults.com) for details and options.

5 and a half years later and people are still asking similar questions... only difference is that there is the word 'iphone' somewhere in the question. interesting...
