Nokia Maps on E71

I am using Nokia Maps on my unlocked e71, it gives me the option to turn off the internet, but I can still use the application w/GPS function. Does this use data since I have turned the internet off?

I have the e71 as well. I poked at Nokia Maps once or twice but think GoogleMaps is better. Works perfect with the builtin GPS.

I believe that setting simply sets it so it does not retrieve maps online. But it might still be using A-GPS (assisted GPS) where it contacts the cell towers for positioning data to assist the satellite data.

A-GPS doesn't use much data. but it still uses it. If you wish to turn it off and prevent the phone from using A-GPS and only use regular GPS you can. But locking onto the satellites takes much longer.

If you have a memory card you can goto Nokias website and download their map preloader software that will preinstall map data onto the memory card so Nokia Maps never has to use the internet for maps ...
