Tech Problem

Yesterday I spent two hours on the phone with ATT. I have a blackjack I, running win mo 6. I got the error when trying to connect to anything which required data usage, "The remote party has ended the connection." After 12 powercycles, 5 different reps, 1 hangup, a hard reset they decided to give me a warranty exchange. So I am without data until I get a new (refurbished...) phone. The agents were very nice and I am certain they were trying to do all they can but, none of them seemed to know what causes the problem. It worked fine before, no plan changes or anything like that. No sim swaps...etc. Does anyone know what could cause this? And does anyone know the direct number to tech support? I spent 75% of the two hours with regular cust care...

I would be interested in hearing the answer. I dealt with 2 blackjacks in my store that said the same thing... but all I had to do was take out the battery and than it worked. Well.... you know I did have an issue to where in the Internet setting it was set wrong. Sometimes it is easy to go to att.com and type in device tutorial in the search box than search for that phone. Thats a good way to learn about your phone and can explain how to solve some problems.

Did they have you wipe the entire device (hold up on the dpad before you turn it on)? That has solved any issue I've ever had with a blackjack.

well i would assume that does the same thing as going through the security menu and selecting reset. everything was deleted and i had to start from scratch.

No - this is different. What I had mentioned is the manufacturers reset. Doing a master clear wipes all the info from the handheld - a master reset restores all the factory settings. This manufacturers reset reloads the software on the the phone, and would hopefully correct any issues you might have. Do you still have the phone? or have you sent it off?

Sometimes crap like that just happens. You're probably better off keeping the phone you had originally - but you be the judge of that. If you decided to keep your original MAKE SURE you call the warranty department and tell them what you're doing.

It baffles me as to why the people at tech support/warranty didn't have you do this... I guess that's what happens when you read off a script. Enjoy the working phone!!
