Anybody have any info. or know how the discounts work on Amazon? I've been thinking of switching to AT&T because my wife can get a corporate discount through her job. I thought about buying the phones from Amazon because they have some great deals on the phones we want.
I would keep the same plan, just apply the corporate discount after getting the phones. Anyone know if Amazon would take the discounts for the phones back? This is what the wording says on their site:
Conditional $250 Discount
The Price listed above for this phone includes an instant $250 discount from Amazon.com. You agree to repay this $250 discount to Amazon.com if, during the six-month period following the activation date or renewal date of your existing contract, you...

Don't do it. You see the T&Cs. It's crap. Your much better off going to a store of some sort. Agent or COR.

IF you KNOW you will be around 6 months it's an excellent deal. Much better than you will get from any Corp store.
All they want (like many agents) is a 6 month obligation to which they can collect their commission. Thats it. Its a GREAT way to "subsidize" the purchase of an unlocked unbranded phone.
GEt the $250 phone and sell it on Ebay and apply the difference to the new phone.

its actually a great way to get it. the terms and conditions are fine. are you going to remain an att customer for 6 months after you get the phone? if so then go for it. they offer the best deals for upgrading customers. i know many people who have done this and love it

I had planned on staying with them, just didn't know if after buying everything and applying my corporate discount would be considered in anyway of changing anything to them. It would be the same plan and everything, just have the discount applied.

Corporate discounts cannot compete with Amazon's discounts. I found a Blackjack II for $0.01 just a day after it was released! That is amazing! The maximum corporate discount I have seen on phones is 50%. Even that doesn't compare to $0.01.
I do offer a word of warning though. It is not enough to just be with the company for six months. The T&C state that you must pay your bill on time. That means that if your bill is due on the 1st and you pay it on the 2nd, they can legally charge you the $250.
If you transfer the service, you can be charged the $250. Imagine, in a worst case scenario, that you have the account in your name and you pass away. If your wife puts the account in her name, you could be charged the $250. Although this is ...

i still dont see how its a headache, i have been with cingular/att since 2001, i always pay on time, i always get the same or comparable rate plan when i upgrade through them. next time i upgrade i will do through amazon and get a great phone for cheap/free. as long as i continue my same routine of the past 7 years, i wont have to worry about the $250 charge

What I am worried about is the percent that will be taken off the monthly bill from the corp. discount, once I get signed up on it. Plus I want to add unlimited texting for families and didn't see that available, if that is added is that considered changing the plan. It just seems more like a add on to me.

DON'T DO IT if you buy a PDA or Blackberry you need a Data package to buy the phone if you change ANYTHING you will get the 250 charge. Go to the Corp store talk to the manager and they will make a great deal for you. I tell people to use there corp discount ( if its good) and do the M.I.B which you will get.

When you go through them make sure that it isn't really Wirefly or one of the other scammers. I'm not saying that to be negative but they have been known to charge you with the $250 or whatever even if you are out of your six months (read the small print). Get a warranty from anyone to protect the phone.

If you are doing new service you might just find a good locally owned agent that will work with you on price WITHOUT having to jump through as many hoops.
I do with my stores and I know many other owners who do the same.
