A happy customer now pissed off

I've been a customer of Cingular since the second half of 2003 and I'd been happy with everything! Hold times were considerably lower than at my former carrier AT&T Wireless and my inquiries were always resolved on the first try...

HOWEVER, thanks to the recent merger, Cingular has picked up some of AT&T's dirty habits. Cingular and T-Mobile used to be the ONLY 2 carriers to offer additional lines on a family line at just $9.99 per line per month. AT&T offered $9.99 ONLY if your base plan was high enough. As for Sprint, Verizon, and Nextel, their add'l lines were always $19.99 per month across the board, regardless of your base plan.

NOW, unfortunately, Cingular has adopted AT&T's pricing policy for family plans. If your base is $59.99...

Im sorry that you seem to be upset. Im going to be honest with you. I think the 9.99 on the 59.99 and higher plan is a great marketing technique. This plan will opt more customers to request this plan. As for having additional lines for less then 19.99 on rate plans below the 59.99 rate plan, it is simply un profitable. Lets also compare rate plans. Cingular offers
cingular 39.99 + 19.99 = 59.98 450 minutes (R)
T-Mobile 49.99 + 9.99 = 59.98 400 minutes
cingular 59.99 + 9.99 = 69.98 850 minutes (R)
T-Mobile 69.99 + 9.99 = 79.97 850 minutes

Wow it seems to me that T mobile is only good if your adding more then 3 lines of service. That seems to be the only way your actually saving money. Why dont you look at T-Mobile and comp...

Actually, I'm sorry to tell you that your math is WAY off. T-Mobile's prices already include 2 lines of service. So it's only when you want to add the 3rd or 4th line that you add the $9.99.

Additionally, Cingular does cost more. I don't need a lot of minutes and thus would like to pay less for the base and save money. So why pay more for additional minutes that I won't use and pretend I'm saving money with the addition of each new line?

If you need less minutes, then Cingular (and every other carrier) is a rip-off!

It's not so much a rip-off as you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Everything is a rip-off if it costs less elsewhere. 🙄

Promotions come and go without prior notice. If at the time of activation such promotion is available then you are eligible for by request otherwise it doesn't exist.

ATT offered 1000 minutes, unlimited NW, and unlimited mobile to mobile for $39.99 (local plan 600 for national) plus additional line of service for $9.99 during March/April of 2004. At this time Cingular, TMobile, and Verizon matched the same promotional offer.

Regardless of how we keep track of rollover, it still works, and I see it working everyday.

yes, sometimes the rollover gets wasted, but the minutes would be wasted anyway even if they didn't have rollover, so what's your point?

Agreed that their is a migration fee but I don't think it's fair for AT&T customers to pay this particularly since they are migrating within the same entity now considering AWE is a part of CW. It's like at T-Mobile if i were asked to pay an activation fee when upgrading my phone. It's plain and simple B.S. And I'm not the only one to think this way. There are a bunch of AWE customers out there who side with me on this issue.

It's not the $18 migration fee I am saying that makes you all bad people. It's the fact that some CSR's at CW don't know their head from their @$$ when answer customer queries and that just drives me crazy. 🤣

The 18.00 migration fee is actually a discount off of the upgrade fee that ATTWs charges if you were upgrading your fon. ATTWS charges 15.00 discount activation fee as well as 9.95 s/h. This is for existing customers who upgrade their fon. The 18.00 fee that Cingular charges covers both the activation fee and shippinh and handlin. So you are actually saving money by getting the new fon and migrating to Cingular over getting a new fon and staying with ATTWS.

But think about this for the long run. Every year a customer wants to upgrade a handset they have to pay $18/instance? Whereas with another carrier, ohhhhhhh say T-Mobile, they won't charge such an outlandish fee. Also say you spend you...

But I am currently working at a client of the company I work who happens to be in the WIRELESS INDUSTRY. And besides companies exis on the shear basis of customer satisfaction weighing usually more than most other factors but sighting what's been said over this forum, I'll strongly beg to differ that Cingular holds that same position. It's really in their best interest to change some of their business policies for the better. Show me this getting better and then watch me (and perhaps alot of other customers out there) stop ranting the anti-Cingular slop all over this forum board.

ok... since it seems i've been blasted, i have to defend my honor... yes, i work for Cingular... i work in the department that is assisting the Tiger Team with migrations. That is not the primary function of our department, so yes we do get conflicting information. When migrations first came out, we were told that customers couldn't go into the retail stores, they had to call the tiger team to process a migration, and we were told not to charge any migration fees. now, about the part with the crediting of the fee... my bad... more conflicting information... we were at first crediting them becuase we were told since sales reps didn't get commission, we were supposed to use the generic sales codes and credit fees, now of course, things chan...

It's a company people, you get more if you spend more, this is true of EVERY company, we're in the business of making money, and just like everyone else, the people who make us the most money will be treated like they MAKE US THE MOST MONEY. Most companies will not give you a discounted price if you're going to opt for having one of our lowest options, if you go higher in price we are going to be more inclined to "cut you a break"
You are being taught by companies that if you spend more with us you will reap the benefits of some kind of incentive that "people who don't spend as much with the company" are not entitled to!
If you think this will change because you threaten to leave to a different company such as t-mobile, plain and simply, ...

Though I understand your concerns on Cingular pricing... I do have to point out a couple things...

1) This pricing was before the acquisition was even announced the merger had no direct impact on this. These rate plans existed prior to...

2) Given T-mobile does offer you the 9.99 rate plans... Each line is a $35 activation as where our secondary lines are an $18 activation when they're activated on the same day... t-mobile's per minute rate never decreases ours does as you go up the ladder...

3) It was a promotional offer when the Family Talk plans had the secondary for 9.99... The promotion ended 4Q of last year... The promotion may return, no doubt it is a great deal.

In addition, this price includes the first 2 lines. There is NO fee for the second line. On any of these plans, you can have a max of 5 lines, being an additional $10 for each line after 2.
So, the structure is a bit different.

5 blue call centers have been chosen to retain customers from leaving. I work in one of them. The $18 processing fee could be waived if necessary including any additional credits to cover cost of phone depending on customer's tenure and rate plan.

Pretty soon will be announced officialy. The emails from management started circulating to all reps at the call center I work and soon reps with at least 6 month tenure will be placed in a roster to take an exam, if passed such exam the rep will have access to other tools (promotions) to use in retaining customer.

Be on the lookout.
