Need Help...
Im looking for some suggestions on what to do...sold a friend a cingular phone/plan about a year ago. at the time he live in north carolina. hes since moved to niagra falls, ny. while in niagra falls, his phone is pickin up off a tower in canada. hes been getting charged for international roaming anytime he uses his phone. cingular says that wont do anything cause its not there problem. they think hes going to canada and so they are gonna charge him. looking at his account notes, they say since they dont no whether or not he is in canada they wont credit him the charges. what can someone do in this situation. hes on a nation plan, coverage in niagra falls is there under the nation plans, yet they still want to charge him internation...

You can try changing him on a North American plan which includes canada as part of the calling area... It's not as great a deal as a nation plan but it would avoid future charges...
As far as this bill... He won't be able to get credit on it... It is correct what the rep told you... He may have been in the states physically but his phone did roam off of that canadian tower... When roaming occurs it's actually the carrier that owns that particular tower that bills us... We in turn bill the customer...
We have already pauid the carrier he roamed on so we are trying to recup those costs... Sorry it may not be the answer you would want... Unfortunately in this case a rep over the phone can just go by what's in the system...

well, that's what i was told. but still have him stop in the local store with his bill so someone can verify whether he would get credited back. they will only credit if he's GSM, btw.

Upstairs from me, they cover Upstate NY. I got bored and asked. No credit. Check your phone before dialing. It tells you you're roaming in Canada.

that's why i said to NOT call customer service, and to go into the local store. 😉

Local store is NOT going to do diddley. Any credits THEY give come out of their OWN pockets.

There's a store on Niagara Falls blvd near Military, they know about that and can help.

Why don't you manually switch to phone to Cingular. It there is any Cingular signal up there you will be able to pick it up that way. If not then you are roaming. I would pay the extra few bucks to get the North American plan personally.

hes been into the local stores in niagara falls to no avail. his phone is gsm and hes on a nation plan. they told him to change to a north american plan but he shouldnt have to. that area is supposed to be covered in the nation plans. his brother, whos always lived in niagara falls and has a cingular phone never gets charged the roaming. is it possible its the phone or because hes gone into a different market he roams on a canadian tower? do you think if he switch to a niagra falls number it wouldnt happen? i dont know, just seems odd to me that cingular doesnt seem to want to help in this situation.
