No new contract ?

Is this true? I just saw on the local news in ATL that ATT is no longer requiring customers to sign new contracts when they change plans or upgrade. They also said the termination fees will be based on how far into your contract you are? ANyone know anything about this?

I just migrated and signed a 2-year contract. Just wondering.

yes, its true. You can change your plan and features anytime without extending your contract. And the termination fee's will be prorated depending on how long you been on your contract. For example a termination fee is 175. your on a 2 year (24 month) contract. lets say you finish 12 months and you cancel, you'll only have to pay 100 or however months you have left.

What about someone like me who just migrated as a former blue cutomer to the new ATT? Did I need to sign a new contract?

Yes, because you recieved a discount on equipment. If you would have paid retail price for the phone, then there would have been no need for a contract.

You're a little confused there. The only reason we would allow you to upgrade is if your signing contract. The one in a million customers that did get a contract extension on the changing of the plans is gone now, so many restrictions to get that extension it was pointless.

Okay, so if you want equipment discounts, you need a contract still? No problem. I'm not going anywhere anyway. Just curious. I was a "free agent" for so long, since I had been out of contract forever! I liked being out of contract, for some reason, even though I didn't ever really consider leaving ATT

Everyone asks that question. If we didn't get the discounts for phones and there was NO contract then we'd be like Europe: We'd spend $200-$400 for a middle tiered phone(basically with Camera and Bluetooth) with no contract agreement whatsoever and there is a different service provider in each state that you have to change your SIM card out everywhere you go.

Instead we have nation-wide plans and carriers that have 24 month contracts that give those same phones for $50-$150 so long as you stay in contract to pay that amount that is discounted. That's why Early Termination Fees are so high. Basically its a SMALL fee to cancel with the cost of the phone added in. WIth AT&T and Verizon its $175. AT&T decided to prorate ETFs so its not a fla...

Well, I've been an ATT customer for around 7 years, and I think signing a new contract is a small price to pay. I don't mind at all. Just wondering about any changes in company policy, that's all

I think the changes in company policy have been things like the new upgrade policies and the new ETF policy(which I think others should do too)! Remember that if you have questions to ask them because its better to know, and knowing is half the battle! (Yes that's a GI JOE reference).
