Is GSM really a better network then CDMA? I currently have USCC and I seem to get great service pretty much everywhere. But I keep hearing how the GSM network is really better???
...
There is little noticeable difference. AT&T's GSM sounds a little different, but it isn't annoyingly different...I actually like it. The SIM card is the winner in the GSM vs. CDMA debate.
...
There is no answer to that question
...
Was it a T-Mobile or at&t store rep? 😁
...
Neither Rep told me. I have some people tell me to switch to AT&T or TMO because GSM has a better network, then CDMA. I'm currently with USCC.
...
Yep, and ford is better than chevy because I say so! If your happy with what you currently have then there is no reason to switch.

I'm going to agree with chainsaw. I guess you have to ask yourself, what's going to benefit you on GSM or CDMA?
...
agreed. Whatever works for you. Me I hate GSM. I feel like I am talking from inside a tin can. But that is me. Plus data is slower! And many other things I don't like with GSM. I don't like sim cards just one more thing that can malfunction. And they do! So for me I will never ever switch to GSM. Oh and if GSM is so mych better why are they upgrading to WCDMA? Yes it still is more gsm like but takes allot of traits from CDMA!
...
and which traits might those be other than the fact that it uses code division multiplexing?

W-CDMA transmits on a pair of 5 Mhz wide radio channels, while CDMA2000 transmits on one or several pairs of 1.25 MHz radio channels. Though W-CDMA does use a direct sequence CDMA transmission technique like CDMA2000, W-CDMA is not simply a wideband version of CDMA2000. The W-CDMA system is a new design by NTT DoCoMo, and it differs in many respects from CDMA2000. From an engineering point of view, W-CDMA provides a different balance of costs vs. capacity vs. performance vs. density, and promises to achieve a benefit of reduced cost for video phone handsets. W-CDMA may also be better suited for deployment in the very dense cities of Europe and Asia. However, hurdles remain, and cross-licencing of patents between Qualcomm and W-CDMA vendors h...

as far as straight up voice clarity I would say CDMA more or less because they don't have that annoying radio signal in the background.
Overall, I am happy I switched to at&t from Verizon because at&t has better phones, sim cards, more freedom with ringtones etc etc.
Verizon is like having a dictator while at&t a democracy, while both are powerful, one is more enjoyable for those that seek its benefits.
...
You gotta love a benevolent democracy like AT&T. Don't subsidize a $600 phone and still force you into a 2 year contract to get it.
Love your idea of "freedom"
...
no one is forcing anyone to buy an iPhone
just like no one is forcing you to vote
...
🙄 You have a crappy argument there bud.
...
Thats apples map pricing on the phone, not ours, they dictate the price on that, so negative nancy I think its time to relax

That sounds about right.

comming from tmo now having alltel i seriously think that the voice clarity is better on cdma. but i do miss the sim card option!!!!! 😢
but i do love my service now
...
I HATED Alltel! 👿 T-Mobile and at&t are my carriers and I am happy!
...
thats good for you but it wasnt good for me here. tmo kept dropping my calls and kept rewarding me with bonus text messages or bonus minutes--after a while that just wasnt enough- what where bonus min going to do for me if i couldnt use them????? i miss my tmo CS but having the good service that i have beats it all. so far so good.
now i was going to go for At&t but was told not to. my friend had alot of billing issues before she changed to alltel. but i see that at&t are having alot of positive changes. maybe soon ill try them out. we are in the army and travel about every 3-4 years- i will use alltel out until theres no alltel to use, and maybe in the future try something new being military that would most probrably be the case, lol.

Funny; I went through that with Alltel. That, and much more; but to each their own. At&t's coverage has decreased for me, and I'm not sure if it's the sim or the phone [Cingular 2125].

the only thing i have to say is if CDMA is the best then why do you have to rent a phone from VZ or Sprint to go international? they both sound the same but the manufactures want GSM cause they can be unlocked and used in any market and they don't want to produce 2 of every phone just to make two companies happy when they have all the GSM companies in Asia and Europe to think about. Even Vodaphone uses GSM and they still part own VZ.
