Speaking of this subject again...I went into a local Cingular company store and asked if I needed one (my new phone has the 32K), with all the discussions on this forum.

She said it was NOT necessary at all, but that's not what I've been hearing on here. Still confused. 😕

Most people that work at the stores can almost be considered idiots...

That's funny. When I told her I had been reading about the SIMs on PhoneScoop, she said they know nothing on there--even when I said there are Cingular Reps! 😉

So, I DO need to get them? I'm in a huge metropolitan area and have had no problems so far.

NEED one??? Probably not... but once those come out it would be like taking your computer and putting an old 486 in it... lol... so you may not need it, but it wouldn't hurt to get one...

When will they become available? Also, what does ATTWS use? How do I get one for DCingular? Will there be a charge?

So it mainly affects phone "software" function?

Or does it concern reception on calls?

And I have a T637--does that qualify for the 64K?

no

this is the answer to everyone's questions.

the 64k does not have magic powers

the 64k does not have an antenna booster

the 64k does not slice, dice, nor julienne potatoes.

the 64k will not make your old phone any better. as a matter of fact if you put a 64k sim in a Nokia 1100, it will continuously power-cycle.

The 64k sim only lets CINGULAR (not the end user) choose which "radios" your phone will be utilizing, essentially letting the engineers play "traffic cop". i'm guessing it contains 2 IRDB's, hence the reason it is double capacity. If your phone is designed to use a 32k SIM, putting a 64k SIM in it will do NOTHING!!!!!

PLUS, stores can't start using 64k sims until all 32k sims are gone, so if you g...

I'm guessing your just guessing at this. Because in a lot of areas a 64k sim will improve service. Now you do have to have an ENS phone to get the 64k benefits. The 32k sims will prefer one carrier over the other. So if you have Cingular phone with a 32k sim and if there is a Cingular tower 5 miles away and there is an AWS tower 1 mile away it will attach to the Cingular tower 5 miles away. Even though it gets poor signal reception and the AWS tower is so much better. No the 64k does not boost your signal but it does use the now much larger network a lot better.
