I guess this might sound dumb but I don't really understand what is so great about GPS. Someone fill me in.

Its depends on the implementation. It's useful if you're often in places you're not familiar with. However, I have yet to see a phone that has it done right. Then again, what's the big deal about camera phones? They all pretty much suck? But they're okay in a pinch, right?

I like the example about the camera phone. HAHAHA. I have never had a phone with GPS but I do have a portable one for my car and the only time I use it is when I travel for work... other than that not much use for it for me.

Thanks for the info, I also like the camera comparison. Although, the picture quality for the Blackberry Curve is pretty good!

You are sorely uneducated if you think all camera phones suck.

Here is the reason I like GPS, and this is just my opinion on the matter.

Say you are out and about in an unfamiliar area, and you want to find a restaurant or a gas station, or say you are on a trip and you are looking for this stuff. Instead of just driving around you can look it up based on your location. And people say, that is what the car GPS systems are for. But what if you are not in your car?

I have used VZ Navigator, and I used it a lot for points of interest, it came in handy and was worth the 10$ charge, considering if you buy a good GPS system its going to be more. And plus with the phone you don't have the intereference you do with other GPS systems, especially with BT GPS Recievers.

Another Gimmick "must have" that ends up not being used very much.

The only GPS that may be good is a tracking GPS to find out where the kids may be at any given time with your car LOL

Just because it is not something you need or would find usefull does not mean it is just a gimmick. I live close to an army base and we are constantly getting people who are new to the area and need a way to find their way around for the first few months.
There are also people who travel alot and need to know their way around unfamiliar places.
Also vacationers, i went to San Fran for a week and had no idea where anything was. I could have bought a gps unit for my car but that would have cost me a fortune. instead I just paid $10 bucks.
