hello people
I have my cell phone with cingular or cellular one or now is called att since 1999!!! After that yr contract. I never had EVER since!!! So i have been with the company since 8 yrs!

I called about upgrading my phone, and i found out about upgrade fee???
why do i need to pay a upgrade fee??!! i have to pay to stay with the company to get a phone?!
why dont i just pay for the phone?!!!

Cell phone industury sucks in the USA!!
I dont know what's wrong with it but europe and asia market dominates us ten folds and company here doesn't care!!

I would never will or would i sigh a contract with COMPAN Y because of their rules!!!

In Europe the market is vendor driven where the handsets are run on GSM and are unlocked to be used on any provider, whereas here in the states the market is an amalgamation of technologies and is driven by the providers and the handsets are subsidized through the service.

If you want things to be like the Asian and European markers where you have the the ability to change your phone when you see fit or be able to switch to various providers at will then be prepared to kick out full retail price on the next phone you want to buy.

If you're not willing to pay the upgrade fee than don't upgrade your phone. No one is holding a piano over your head threatening to cut the string if you don't purchase a new phone.

If he has had his phone since 1999 the piano scenario is very possible. a 1999 phone is probably TDMA and they will probably kick him off here soon. However, if you upgrade from TDMA your upgrade fee should be waived. So STFU and get over it.

And... if I recall correctly, the 18.00 upgrade fee does not apply if one purchases at the no-commitment price. Meaning that if you do as the Europeans do and pay full price for the phone... no contract, no upgrade fee.

Which is what I'd do anyways, frankly. I've only ever once taken a contract on cell phone service, reluctantly, and for only one year.

like posted before....European Providers, for the most part charge customers full price for their phones. So that phone you got in 1999 back then was probably worth, 350.00 in europe and now is worth less than ****. If you do the upgrade your fee is charged to your bill anyway, and depending on the phone you choose (hell if you haven't had a phone since 99 you might want to get a flip with caller id to start) you might not even pay for the phone. Stop whining about it and do your upgrade.

between my wife and I, we have upgraded our phone a few times... and yes they do add that fee in there. she called, complain and complain.. and its waived.

i did the same thing for my mom and dad at Sprint.. they gave my mother a phone that after 3 months, it stopped working.. so my dad decides to upgrade a new phone, and give his to my mom... of course they added the feee. i called (they dont speak english) and told them off... in the end, they waived the fee.

you just have to speak up.

Dude, maybe its time to move to t-mobile or something... there's always a way around this, just have to be calm and think.

Thats why the new changes go into effect on Sunday, cuz the system is being modded so that it can't be overidden. Please do call in, as many times as you want.

We changed our policy on that as well. Every time a customers calls in over and over, it now knocks down their LTV score, LTV is the LifeTimeValue and the more you call the lower your score and well the lower it goes, the less we will do for you.

yes ppl do abuse the system and those ppl should pay for it. at the same time, CS do help for the system to get abuse. maybe thats why your company is doing what they needs to do. Remember the system are control by Cingular.. so if you are working for them... you help with all these abuse and new changes.

only reason i am here at cingular is cause i was a customer for so fricken long and was told the wrong thing numerous times and i just wanted to get it straight with customers

i prolly am the most consistent rep and strive to make sure i am RIGHT Everytime

i also talk customers out of the first phone they want because its never the right phone for them

i am the complete rep and have a wait most the time just for my expertise

so i do try to make sure the abuse is down to a min

ok
let me break it down for the math challenge customers and people on here

if u buy phone a. at the $100 price and receive a $50 dollar rebate u really only paid $50 for the phone
Now if u did that price with a 2 year agreement u are NEVER STUCK it would just cost u $175 to break the contract.....
hence it will cost u $175 + $50 which equals $225.00

but what if the FULL PHONE PRICE IS $300
then by doing the contract didn't u just save $75???????

so for all u guys thinking u are making it better off out of contract thats fine but u could always get a better deal in contract and pay your way out of it later on

so be the smart shopper quit bitching about upgrades and contracts and do your pocket a favor DO THE CONTRACT ......

The American Wireless Industry's business model is much different from the European and the Asian models that is true. What would you rather do, spend a fortune on the phone and have most things be prepaid or would you rather have a 26.00 upgrade fee, get the phone real cheap and get more minutes for voice calls?

Verizon Wireless does charge upgrade fees, the fees vary by market and channel.

Upgrades are always free online, upgrades are free through customer service in most areas, upgrades are free if you are using the New Every Two.

In the Midwest there is a $20 upgrade fee for doing an upgrade in a store and a $20 upgrade fee if you upgrade with the Annual upgrade program at a store or through customer service.

Verizon Wireless doesnt want existing customers in the stores, they want new customers in the store and existing customers to use the website and customer service if they arent able to use the website.
