BUILT IN BATTERY (YEAH,BECAUSE THE iPOD DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THAT TYPE OF BATTERY), TOUCH SCREEN KEYBOARD (BECAUSE IF THE SCREEN GOES OUT, YOU ARE SCREWED) AND GPRS SERVICE (BECAUSE THE REVOLUTIONARY MOBILE DEVICE IS SO GOOD,IT DOESN'T NEED 3G) ARE NOT ENOUGH REASONS TO SPEND $500+ (WITH A CONTRACT) FOR A DEVICE JUST BECAUSE IT HAS THE APPLE LOGO ON IT. most customers do not even have 3G coverage. we don't have it in our market yet... get over it. it's going to be a great device.

Yes but think about where there is 3G coverage, in metro areas, why on God's green earth would someone in the country need an iphone. Here in Houston we have the coverage, so why would I want to buy a phone without 3G, when I have the coverage, when I can stick with my 8525, and not only that the iphone comes with built in google maps with no built in GPS to use it with, of course you can buy a BT GPS RECEIVER, but I have one, and its a hastle to carry it around with my 8525.

Upgrading a handset to 3G is not simply a software update. If it doesn't have a 3G capable chipset, you're going to have to buy a later released model that does.

Software upgades only happen when the device is built with 3G chipsets and they are UMTS ready when those chipsets are present. HSDPA and HSUPA are software upgrades to the network elements and firmware upgrades to the device...
