If you buy a US Chocolate, it's going to be CDMA. There are GSM versions that will work though. The biggest disadvantage will be things like internet. That phone will not be able to make purchases from the Cingular Mall because it wont recognize it as a supported device.

The text message settings and even the internet settings can still be manually entered into the phone on most phones. I can only think of one case where I couldn't change the settings, and given that you're looking at a European phone and the number of carriers they have over there, you should be able to have it modified.

Was it listed as "quad-band" or "tri-band"?

Actually text messaging will work just fine. It is done through the sim card. it's kinda cool everyone attached to the sim card has their own "email" address that is what is basically done through a text message
The disadvantage is that it might not have all of the frequencies needed to get good service. The chocolate that you can get made in GSM I believe only comes tri band to over seas meaning it is lacking the 850mhz frequency that Cingy uses. That means more dropped calls, and less coverage. With most phones you can input the internet setting into so that you can shop ring tones, surf the web and most importantly send and receive pics.
You can go to importgsm.com to get the internet setting or just either call into cust care (611 to ...

I dont know if this is important to you but if you get a unlocked phone mms will not work properly. What I mean by this is you will be able to receive pics but the file size of the pics will be extremely small like 4k or 12k.Also you will not be able to recieve video through mms. This is because the phone you are using is not supported by cingy. If mms is not important to you then you will not have any problems with a unlocked phone.

Also depending on where you are the GSM version may or may not work. I had someone come in my store with one about a week ago and it would not work because where we are at Cingular operates on 850 which the version he had purchased did not have.

What a fat load of misinformation this thread is. What the hell has happened here? Do you people even know what you're talking about?

I would like to start this by just saying YES, it will be fine to use an unlocked GSM chocolate (the model is LG KG800) on Cingular.

I suppose it is important to mention that yes there is a CDMA chocolate out there (used by Verizon) that obviously would not work on the Cingular network.

I would hope Kassie would have done enough research to know she would need to get a GSM one.

Yes it is European Tri-Band, meaning it picks up the European 900/1800 MHz and only the US 1900 MHz band. In some areas where 850 is used in conjunction with 1900, you obviously wont be able to pick up that 850 and it wil...

I agree with what your saying about phone settings but I know for a fact if she lives in North Georgia this phone will not work. It will only pick up T-mobile it will not pick up Cingular.
