Keith Alan Joiner says he may be addicted to pornography, or at least that's what he told police when they arrested him for "racking up more than $1,300 in charges visiting pornographic websites" on one Cingular customer's dime. Joiner also confessed to stealing other credit card information while "employed as a call-taker at the West Corporation in Pensacola, Florida." The West Corporation takes calls from Cingular customers.

Joiner was eventually caught after vigilant customers noticed charges appeari...

Review, check and re-check charge account and debit statements.

That’s the advice of Detective Chris McBrayer, who recently arrested a Pensacola man who stole a woman’s debit card information and used it to purchase pornography on the internet.

The suspect – Keith Alan Joiner, 22, of 414 Hyacinth Dr. – was arrested Jan. 29. He was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and criminal use of personal identification.

Joiner also is under investigation for the theft of similar information from six other people. McBrayer said it is not known how much money Joiner has taken from the v ...

You have employees at Taco Bell, Walmart, and other fortune 500 companies stealing people's identity and CC information.
Blaming Cingular for this is like blaming the street for car accidents.
Dude has a problem and his employer happened to be Cingular...
Would this be posted in the other forums if he were on their staff?
Knowing the history of the original poster, probably not...

No idea. Apparently he had access to credit card numbers though. It was first of all, his own fault. He stole the numbers. West was his employer. West works in some capacity for Cingular. More blame lies with West than with Cingular, although Cingular did choose to hire West to work for them.

west works as an out sourced call center, which means to my knowledge they have all the ability to access the systems that your average csr does...tho prolly no benifits provided by cingular.....that being said, ive had to apply at some temp agencies and they do criminal background searches too...so cingular prolly would have hired him too...

Maybe so. It wasn't my arguement that they wouldn't and I make no assumptions about this individuals past. This could've very well been his first offense. It's unfortunate that it happened, yet also good that they finally caught him.

I was making the point, however, that he works for West and not Cingular.

Oh, this isn't West or Cingular's fault. The blame lies entirely with the individual who did it. Period. If he had a clean background check and passed all test and interviews, then either company would, and should, hire him. The guy's young, and he may not have had a job that allowed him discreet access to the credit cards of others. And I haven't heard of a way of knowing that someone is ...

If you took 1% of the time you spent searching for contract loopholes, attempting to disprove others posts, and posting inflammatory posts, and spent that time actually trying to provide helpful information to people on this site, you could be quite a helpful individual. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen. ☹️ ☹️ ☹️ ☹️

Point proven.

The moral of the story, one would hope, is to take notes about interactions over the phone where you may have to give out credit card information. Helps track down and fight back against identity theft and fraud. If the intended moral is Cingular is a big bad company looking to steal your money, I think Plooky has played it to death. Perhaps a name change to Captain Conspiracy would be more appropriate.

Regarding third party vendors, I did CS for Cingular through Convergys, had to do a criminal background check, had the same access to accounts any other rep would have. Near the end of my tenure, however, as our call center was having difficulty meeting recruitment targets, hiring standards went out the window. Criminal records - including...
