Seriously, how hard can it be to get a Subsidy unlock code?!?!

I've placed 5 requests each for both of the phones on my account after terminating the account. I've got a w600i and a z500a. I've waited the time I was told for each request before placing a new one and I've still never received a single code for my w600i and I've received 3 codes for the z500a and none of them have worked.
☹️

I asked the last guy what was going to happen if none of the codes that cingular sent me worked. In not so many words, he said, I don't know, not my problem and proceeded to completely ignore me when I asked him what he meant. 👿

I didn't think that the service was that bad when I was with cingular. But I know I won't be recommending service if this is how the company is going to treat the customers...

I could be mistaken, but I think you only get so many chances before the phone locks out for good.
Someone else would be more suited to comment on that further.

I don't know why you are having the issues you are, but to be honest I'm not surprised.

Despite people still constantly complaining about being unable to unlock their phone through Cingular, the fanboys still claim that Cingular will do it quickly and easily given you meet the criteria.

Unfortunately, that case seems to be rare, and your case seems to be much more common.

Even more unsettling, is that they still will argue they are needed as well.

Good luck to you.

you can only enter the unlock code so many times before you have to buy a cable and do it through your computer

It's 5 times per phone. They've given me 3 wrong codes on one of them.

Or before it locks up your sim card and you need to buy a new one.

I've never had a customer have trouble getting their phone unlocked plooks. Yes, I've put in several requests to have it done.

I've never had someone who wasn't a customer request an unlock code though. I'm pretty sure you have to have service with us for us to provide you with one. I haven't read all the conditions in several months, so that's why I'm only pretty sure.

It's not cus I'm a fanboy, it's cus it's my job and I know how to do it.

I was told by CS that I could not get the phones unlocked until my account was terminated. So I closed it and made the request at the same time. How hard is this to understand.

Dont worry. A lot of reps (or anyone in that kind of position) gets reeeeeeally sick of dealing with problems viewed as ridiculous, for lack of a better word, made by people with a sense of entitlement. I'm not saying you don't deserve the proper assistance, but it helps to be as nice as possible from the get-go. You were costing Cingy money to keep you as a customer. Just because you agreed to give them X amount of money every month does not mean you can do whatever you want. To be honest, If I were the one helping you at cust care, and you were talking to me the way that you type in this thread, I would tell you to go f#$% yourself. If you asked nicely, I would gladly help you. Some may take posts on this site a little too personall...

I've been as nice as I could be on the phone. And I'm sick of being told "I'll have to put in another request for you." I've Filed 6 requests for these phones. And if it weren't for me bringing it to cingulars attention of my off network usage then they would've kept paying it for awhile. They never sent me a letter. I've never lived in home area, and no one can blame me for the companies "system" letting me slip through the cracks. I'm sorry if I come off as a dickhead or a jerk, but I am sick and tired of the runaround. 🤭 🤭

I ask politely,
Can anyone please just tell me, Why this is taking so long?

honestly i believe that ALL carriers have some policy about stalling subsidy request until the predetermined period is up(T-Mobile= 90 days past contract cancellation). T-Mobile tried that mess with me until i did this rant about the FCC has ruled that locking a cell phone to a particular carrier as unlawful and that the ruling will stand for a period of at least 3 years. Then i got an e-mail with my code. A for Cingular, they have offered me codes for all four of my phones so i may send any of those phones to Iraq with my son. So you can call them, or better yet, e-mail them with some situation involving overseas travel or do the FCC rant 🤣 . Hope that helps

I've called them with no luck but I think I may try the fcc route here. Since my account is already cancelled i doubt that they will believe the overseas thing, or even care for that matter.

Curious,

I would enjoy seeing the overall status on the account. Is money owed, things like that.

I have requested a couple dozen codes over the last year and never once had an issue. Could also be more difficult if you have already terminated your account. Just speculation but all the ones I have completed were on active acccounts.

Have you ever tried to have a store help you?

Just not the experience my stores or customers have received on this issue.

If you cancelled the lines, 99% of the time Cingular will not give you the unlock codes for those devices. The requirements for the subsidy unlock code are usually this: The account must be ACTIVE, the imei must be the imei on the account, you must have either fulfilled the contract, or bought the phone outright, or be traveling overseas and be eligible for international roaming. I'm surprised you got the codes at all, and being that you terminated your account, Cingular won't be in any hurry to attempt to resolve the issue.

My advice, if you have any active cingular accounts, switch the imei of the phone to that account, then tell them you're traveling overseas. With an active account you will have much better luck getting the proper ...

Well, seeing how they wouldn't give me the code unless I was out of contract and they told me directly that they were going to cancel my account if I didn't because of Excessive Off Network usage. Your idea sounds a little selfish of the company in my opinion when they told me to do something and then they just turn around and F@#$ me in the a$$ when I do what they ask me to. I suppose I could've stayed on and made them pay for the 1000 off network minutes I used a month on someone elses network.

The fact that your an EON (Excessive Off Network) customer..... just a minor detail.... you know, wouldnt make a difference how much customer service would try to assist you... seeing your account was cancelled b/c you cost Cingular money to keep you as a customer... you know, little details like that.

So basically..... you were too late. 👀

Just go pay someone to unlock it for you. It's not worth the headache at this point.

Need some websites of people that unlock for you?
