So last night at the Pistons game instead of getting no service like my buddy (verizon phone), my phone picked up Cingular... first time EVER i saw that happen... strange to see it...

it probably has little to do with the buy out but the scheduled roaming agreements kicking in. attws is having another round of roaming agreements kicking in since this past april (last round was in december, before any buyout talks had begun).

I hope more comes soon. I was in Atlanta this past week and forced my AT&T phone into Cingular's signal the whole time because my AT&T signal was so bad. I can't do the same here in Chicago yet. I have to live with my one singal bar in Hyde Park. But hey..those people in the commercial sure look happy, eh?

You mean all those people running around with five bars of signal over their heads? Yeah, I laugh hysterically at that commercial every time I see it.

Yeah, those people. Funny, eh? I haven't noticed the difference. I still get "Call Failed" alot. And I constantly watch my bars go up and down without my moving position. Go figure.. Gimme some of what they have in that commercial..I want 5 bars over my head too!

SShhhh, Pimp...just let it go. He's obviously had a problem with the only Samsung phone he's ever owned, and now he's convinced that all Samsungs are inferior. Let it go. Breath in...breath out. Woo-sah!

THERE IS ONE THING I DON'T THINK NO ONE HAS TAKEN IN EFFECT.

WHEN THE MERGER GOES THROUGH WITH ATTWS AND CINGULAR..

ALL THE ATTWS CUSTOMERS WILL NO LONGER BE UNDER
CONTRACT WITH ATTWS..BECAUSE THEIR ORIGINAL CONTRACT WAS WITH ATTWS NOT CINGULAR.SO WHEN TH MERGER IS COMPLETE ALL THE CURRENT ATTWS WOULD HAVE THE CHOICE TO LEAVE WITHOUT PAYING AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE..

SO WE'LL BE GLAD TO HAVE THOSE ATTWS CUSTOMERS IN OUR VERIZON FAMILY.

Thanks Shadow! I was just about to type out a message stating the same thing and then saw yours.

And you know what's funny, Verizon probably has the same thing in their TOS too. =)

You both could be right, BUT... in my area ATTWS just acquired Cellular One, and every customer as of June 6th here that was with Cell One is NO LONGER under contract with ATTWS. Cell One has been so awful that it seems like most of those customers are itching to go elsewhere, and aren't even considering staying with AT&T Wireless.

Not only that...AT&T Wireless announced today that they have officially inked the deal with Sprint for the new AT&T Wireless service that will go active after the Cingular merger is approved. They said that the merger will mean a release from current contracts and that they will aggressively try and persuade customers to stay with the new AT&T Wireless rather than ...

Did you even read the news brief?

ATT and Sprint inked a deal. NOT ATT Wireless and Sprint. ATT and ATT Wireless are two separate companies. In fact the new service by ATT is most likely not even going to be called ATT Wireless.

As for the contracts. I'll leave that up to the lawyers after the merger occurs.

Yes, I've read the news brief, I've heard the news brief and I've watched analysts discuss it all day. I understand what an asset-backed independently spun company is. I understood it when it happened back in 2001 as I do now. They DO plan to keep the AT&T Wireless name - thats the whole point. Otherwise AT&T could have done this before now if they planned to used...

What I love about this post is that along with it being totally without merit or shred of truth...it's all in caps. Was this the guy that trashed the Verizon office a few days ago?

actually, per our terms and conditions:

The terms say that if there is a change that causes a material adverse impact to your rate plan you will receive notice and be able to cancel service within 20 days without paying a cancellation fee....

Umm, if you have the same rate plan and such, you are still under the same contract, hence... you are still obliged to fulfill it.

And I'm sooooooo sure that all these customers will be leaving. I mean, what is there to gain in staying other than even more coverage than they had before, even more spectrum to use, better phone selection, etc.

If they combine their spectrum, i'm definately staying... i haven't gotten a fast busy in over a year. If i don't ever have to deal with that again, i'll be a happy man :-D

I hope you all understand what a disaster the merger is going to be. You think ATT will actually have more reliable reception? Thats a joke, just like the company. Good luck to you all though, I must admit- you have a high level of tolerance.

Why would reception be strongly affected?

I can see any number of potential breakdowns incorporating the two companies-- billing, payroll, customer care-- but 'reception' would have been almost last on my list. (Just ahead of 'technology'.)
