I've heard that some companies will special order phones from other for here. Usually this has been either T-Mobile or Cingular. Will Sprint do that for these Japanese Sanyo phones? I realize that GSM makes it easier to do this, but would it be possible with a CDMA phone?

Yeah, the Sanyo phones look awesome, but the menu seems to be kind of lacking. And it takes a bit of pressing buttons to find what you want.
