Two phones, one number?

I have a Treo 650, but the reception is awful in my house, maybe 1 bar if I'm lucky. My girlfriend has an older Sanyo SCP-4900 which has full bars and reception and call quality is amazing.

Can I buy a used SCP-4900 on eBay and have Sprint set it up so both phones are tied to the same number and not incur any additional line charges? That way I can use the Sanyo at home.

TIA.

I would say the best we can do is to get a new line with a 4900 or try a 4930. While you are at home you can forward all calls to the treo. But this will require a 2yr contract and additional charges for having the line.

First i would try roaming and see about moving to one of the new fair and flex with roaming included. This is the easiest and cheapest option.

But as for having 2 phones on the same number no, they won't/can't do it.

Roaming is an excellent idea. But is there a way to force roaming on my Treo? Since I can actually get a Sprint signal, it doesn't seem to be switching to Verizon, which I know has full signal in my house from a friend's phone. I suppose I could also forward calls to my girlfriend's phone while I am home.

Actually, how do I do that on the Treo 650? Thanks again!

as for forwarding while on the phone part, tap the top and goto Options, adn then to phone preferences, there is an option for call forwarding. keep in mind with this option you will be charged $.20 a minute.

I'm not sure if there is a roaming lock out on the treo, such as there is on other phones, that will only let it operate on the sprint network. one of these other guys with more xp with them may be able to say, but there is a digital roaming option in that same menu. hope these help.

Thanks for your help, Alluvin. I'm surprised Sprint charges 20 cents/minute for forwarding, though. I'll look into it. thanks again.

What software version is the Treo? I know the was an update to fix the roaming and a few other things. It should be at 1.12

Yeah, that's what I'm at. But it doesn't allow me to roam exclusively if there is a signal from Sprint available.

This actually can be done with something called ESN cloning.

However, ESN cloning is not easy, and is usually used for nefarious purposes (such as having your calls charged to someone else's bill...). In your case, since it is YOUR phone and bill, and YOUR ESN, if you can find a way to clone your treo's ESN to a different phone, you could probably get away with it.

I will say ESN cloning is not particularly easy; by design for the most part, due to its potential for illegal exploitation.

It can also yield somewhat unpredicatable results if both phones are turned on at the same time, sometimes one might ri...

the closest thing any carrier will give you for that is gsm. you can swap the sim, which carries your number, between any gsm phone.
