Careful, Steve. We don't want the Sprint Forum to become the battleground that the Verizon forum has become. You are correct. The UMTS rollout has not been as anticipated. This is a global problem. I am sure it will be rolled out and it will work well. Just not anytime soon.

why would this be a battle over this? i was just simply asking what people thought was going to happen with gsm? will they (cingular t-mob) do any thing will it or will they just keep it the same old antiquated system that it is now?

You really should gain more knowledge about a subject before making a post like this.

EDGE is deployed virtually nationwide for Cingular, according to their website data and press releases. It works well as a 2.5 G data network.

EVDO is deployed on a limited basis for Verizon and not at all for Sprint. I have used it and it is awesome. By the time EVDO is deployed nationwide by Verizon, let alone Sprint, I would be willing to bet Cingular will be deploying 3 G data in major markets. That part is pure opinion and speculation, but based on historical roll-out data is looks to be very probable.

This race is a marathon.

Forgive me if I am wrong but...

EVDO is 3g and EDGE is 2.5, from what I have heard EVDO works MUCH better and much faster than EDGE, I have only used EVDO and I LOVE IT.

Just what I have heard, let me know your opnion

EVDO kicks EDGE all over. But EDGE is deployed virtually nationwide whereas EVDO is stillonly deployed in a few major markets.

Verizon has beat Cingular to the table on the initial launch of 3G data, no question there.

If you can get EVDO where you live and are deciding between Verizon and Cingular for wireless data go for the EVDO! I have used it as well and it is quite impressive.

I agree completely. I absolutely love Cingular when it comes to phone selection and phone features. But if you are basing a decision solely on wireless data, my VX8000 from VZW completely blows away anything I have from Cingular.

"Everyone is moving to cdma" you say... I guess that's all relative to your loose interpretation of the word "everyone". I guess the +70 million gsm subscribers in the US must be a bunch of nobodies, not to mention all the millions of gsm subscribers throughout the rest of the world.

So you think that gsm is just going to "disappear" b/c of the marvels of ev-do???

What a comedian! 🤣

NEWS FLASH: cdma is still pretty much exclusive to North America (and S. Korea) last time I checked.

I never put any weight in any carriers' claims of when they will have this or that technology deployed, whether it be ev-do, wcdma, or whatever. It always takes longer than originally anticipated.

So what if wcdma isn't out yet. Asi...

I certainly respect your right tostart a civil discussion, but is it too much to ask for you to use Spell-Check or proof-read your post before putting them up?

So? That doesn't mean there isn't a reason to use correct spelling and grammar.

actually in my opinion there is a reason to avoid the spellcheck - especially with long replies - the server will detect extensive idle time on your login and automatically log you out without you knowing. to prevent this, a good idea is to type quickly OR use cut-and-paste from notepad
