Might not get Evo - Lack of WiMAX in NYC?!?!
To me, THE BIGGEST selling point of the Evo is having 4G/WiMAX speeds. Does anyone know how long it will take to get it installed?
Should I upgrade to a Blackberry Bold in the meantime and wait a year until my next upgrade as a Premier customer?

Weren't you ripping the Evo in the review discussion? I'm sooooo confused.
Nope, this is my first Evo related post.
I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra $10 per month if there is no 4G service for me.
Maybe I should wait until 4G arrives in late 2010, as well as waiting for initial kinks in the phone to be worked out...
What do you think?
I'm going to get it on the 4th, but I'm in a 4g area (Harrisburg, PA...Can you believe it?), and I use a Verizon mi-fi, so I'm going to compare the 3g and 4g hotspots. If not for those factors, I'd probably wait for the bugs to get worked out... and the price to drop.
It'll be in NYC by the end of 2010. Check www.sprint.com/4G to sign up for updates. 🙂
A greater percentage of our commutes allow usage of phones. Even in the subway, people will be using smart phones for games, doing personal organizer stuff, music, etc. Above ground, on bus, train, cab, or walking, people will be on their smartphones using the web.
Additionally, people eat out here more than anywhere else, keeping them out of their homes (and away from their computers) longer.
I'm not saying that my city is better or more important. I'm just saying that by the statistics, wouldn't it make sense for Sprint to on-boa...

But in all reality, I don't know. We should be seeing 4G in major cities across the country by the end of this year, and hopefully it will expand to smaller cities shortly after.
I wonder if it is worth it to get the Evo before 4G is rolled out here. I might as well wait for the early-adopters to work through the bugs and kinks in the phone before I buy it, right?
4G? would be awesome... but otherwise it looks to be the best phone out NOT counting 4G.
4G is going to be icing on the cake (where available).
I would get that as a 3G phone in a heartbeat (of course... as 3G I'd not pay an extra $10... I also pay more per month on AT&T so that does make a difference)
Build towers just for them to go boom? Yeah... good investment.
Sprint is ahead of the game on this one...
Bottom line get the EVO maybe give it a month to settle in and then get it but dont' wait a whole year 🙂
