Android 2.1 Release Date - May 7th, 2010 Per Sprint Customer Service/Technical Support - T/F?

Folks,

Situation: I called Sprint Customer Service yesterday with an inquiry to see if they have heard of the Release Date, official or not, for the Android 2.1 OS Update. I was transferred to Technical Support as the C.S.R. felt that they would have an appropriate answer to this. After being transferred, the reply I received was May 7th, 2010 and it will be an O.T.A. (Over The Airwaves) Update. It will appear on the Moment and the Hero as an S.M.S. Message, which the user will have to open and download the Update. When the Download (and install?) are complete, the device will require a reboot. I was also told that data, Phone Contacts, E-Mails and Calendar items will not be lost, even if you do not explicitly back them up prior to f...

My friend says in his care home page it says early may, so May 7th makes sense IMO.

I got my phone at the perfect time then! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Thanks!

I was trying to hold out for the Evo 4G to be my first phone to come back to Sprint with but considering that 4G still has challenges, I figured that upgrading in say 03/2011 is going to work out just right as well. Device Price will drop. 4G Network issues (if any) will stabilize. not to forget about potential coverage expansion for 4G as well.

My care page has the same information, it does not specify a date though. States 'early May', like Kayslay said.

I hope it's true, I'm ready for it... ๐Ÿ˜

OK today I called in once again to re-verify the same information again with the Tech Support Reps but only to get a different answer, which portrayed a far lower overall confidence in the 05/07 date for Android 2.1 OS Update than the prior Tech Support Rep showed. One of the Reps truly had no idea W.T.H. I was even talking about.

So Sprint Reps, can someone please come clean with what the real expectation is here? Also, I particularly curious if the Enhancements to the Application Cache Settings in this release will do anything to fix problems I am having with the Managing Applications module constantly "Force Closing"? I currently have an Advanced Task Killer installed as a temporary backup for this particular issue and it's not th...

On one end, you could be right. But in reality, it's about a straight and honest channel of communication. As I am coming to see with Cell Carriers these days, you cannot really expect that from anyone because no one seems to know their stuff. As good as the coverage has been in this first month, the billing has been a complete 180 of that, which I'm disappointed with at the moment. so far the Adjustments that were promised are not being delivered upon. I just hope I don't wind up having to change carriers again in 03/2012.

On Thursday, Sprint revised a tweet it sent out last week regarding an Android update for the Samsung Moment and HTC Hero. Both smartphones won't be getting an Android 2.0 update; instead, they will get Android 2.1.

The carrier made the announcement via its Twitter account, but unfortunately didn't provide any more specific details as to when the updates might be rolled out other than it would be sometime in the first half of 2010.

Currently, only the Nexus One is running Android 2.1. While features of this version of the operating system are still largely unknown, some people have spied enhancements including a Palm WebOS-like Deck of Cards feature, more home screen panes, and additional 3D items in the app tray.

thats all I co...

Hehe, isn't 'Slide to Unlock' one of the things that Apple is sueing HTC for? So now Samsung will get sued too, since its being added to the Moment? Or can we agree that Apple has thrown their weight around enough in petty lawsuits over Android and won't bother?
