Sprint and Roaming?

I am a huge fan of sprint and have been with them for a very long time. Now they are doing away with the forced roam or roam only function on all their phones I am being forced to look for solutions. I have a Sanyo Katana DLX and love the phone. I can force it to roam on my camping and fishing trips every weekend and still get service. I just got a new Samsung Moment Android phone and never could get the phone to roam. The new phone thought I was in a usable sprint service area when it was not enough service to do anything with. I had no way to put it on roam to call out or receive calls. I have used my old phone in this area several times easily with the forced roam option. I ended up returning it and re activating my old Katana. I asked sp...

Is your current phone set to automatic? If not this needs to be selected to receive a roaming signal. I live in a roaming area myself and even though i will drop calls here and there the majority of them should go through. the pre option does work it is a 3rd party app and should not affect anything else.

Yes, we have 4 sprint phones and all of them are a few years old so they can all be put on roaming only. When they are on automatin they never go onto roam. Once in a while they will but the sprint signal is not usable or callable. It thinks it is a usable home signal but it is not and the only way to call, text or get voice mail is when the signal is weak like that to force into roam. I never had to do it really often but it is enough to make us have to switch services when our phones break. I am just hoping to find a way to stick with sprint.

Unfortunately the Pre is the only way you would be able to get the roaming only option. I don't forsee any of our new phones coming with the ability to force roaming due to costs associated with the roaming.

Well... I could see the Droid getting that option (Same reason as Pre: community wish on a customizable phone).

As a programming student, I know I would consider building a program that can do that and sell it for a couple dollars per. Might not get rich, but it'd definitely sell.
